I was rather disturbed to discover recently that all past revisions to any story are available for any logged-in reader to view. I suppose there might be some value in being able to see my own history, but I find it disturbing that others can also go through it. Even the best of us make mistakes at some time, and personally, I would rather such mistakes did not remain on public record. What is even more disturbing is that, like me, other authors may not be aware that such records remain publically on view.
My story decade-big-busts-stories-no-7-travelling-hopefully seems to have gone missing from the Home Page. I can see the stories published before and after it, but mine has gone. It's still in My Stories.
The Solo tag on my two recent standalone stories keeps getting reset to Series. I realise the titles are confusing as they seem to suggest a series, but they are both standalone stories and should be marked as Solo.
The titles of both commence A decade of Big Busts followed by a number, so I can understand why people should think them a series - in one sense they are, but the stories are unrelated to each other except by their publishing history.
Finding out how many people read my story, that is, rather than simply clicking on it, giving it a cursory examination, and then going onto something else. When I last posted a blog on this, I was surprised how many responded with a closed answer that, "It was impossible."
Is there any way to copy the attributes and keywords for Part 1 of my serial into subsequent parts?
In MS Word, I would simply open "Part 1", Save As "Part 2", delete all the text, paste in the new text and re-save. I would then have two files titled "Part 1" and "Part 2" with identical attributes.
At the moment, I go through the whole set-up sequence, trying to remember what keywords I set for Part 1, to repeat in subsequent Parts. It seems a long-winded process.
I was frustrated as an author when I first started writing on Fictionmania in 2002 that I couldn't find the kind of products which would transform my male characters into realistic-looking women. So, the Big Busts shop was born, and I filled it with my own fictional items which I developed in that and subsequent stories.
I have just discovered DocsToGo for my iPhone, and it is an incredibly useful app.
It enables me to edit MS Word files on my iPhone and then synchronise them with my computer, so I can now write on the train or in a cafe, or even in bed at 3 am (my most creative time). Unlike a laptop, unless people get very close, it is completely private. Sure, typing is not that fast on the iPhone, but it's fast enough for my brain. And you can always tidy it up when you transfer it to your computer. It even handles password protected files - another important feature for me.
As I approach my second year on this site, it's only recently I have discovered the Themes and other settings available to tailor the way that I can view it!
I have been looking over the dozens of my story ideas stored on my computer, some of them years old and never likely to be started, never mind finished, and trying to work out why I never took them any further.
Most of them show the protagonist getting into an interesting, complex (and almost believable!) situation. But I now realise one particular fault is shared by many of them. In future, I'm going to rigorously ensure I don't fall into the trap again by applying "Charlotte's Test".
Like many authors who publish, I get considerable pleasure from knowing that others have enjoyed my work, and the Vote counter was the way in which I could see the number of readers who did so. I have never paid much attention to Hits, equating that to people picking up a book in a bookshop, thumbing through it, and mostly putting it down without purchase. As such, there was always a vast difference between Hits and Votes. Whilst the comments are wonderful, they are always going to represent only a minority of readers.
Like many authors who publish on this site, I gain a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that many others have enjoyed my work. Comments are wonderful, but there are typically around seven times more people who would normally vote without leaving a comment. With the indefinite suspension of the Voting System, it means that I would be blind to all those readers.
I see that Femskin are now selling a Padded Girdle which appears virtually identical to the fictional Hiplet used in many of my stories. Only Sensotouch is missing. At around US$1000, it's not cheap, but then, neither are my Hiplets.
Does anyone have experience with Femskin products? They do appear fantastic, but they're certainly not cheap and I've not heard reviews from more than an occasional user (who could be a company plant!). For such expensive products, I'd expect the website to impress, but it doesn't make me feel over confident that the end products will match their billing.
