For those who don't post there's a general rule about how much you can post and how much is on the quickfinds list. Here's my thing and that sometimes that list goes fast with a lots of new stuff coming in and sometimes not. *Note not bitching.*
What I want an opinion on is how long do I leave something in place before putting something up? I mean if it's not getting the comments in that early posted stuff rush and just getting normal comment traffic.
Anybody?

Erin generally allows
up to a maximum of 4 completely separate story postings on the front page at any time from any author in order to allow room and share it with others. We have only had glitches where authors post continuing chapters of the same story and as soon as a new one goes up the old one gets bumped from the front page (and then wonder where the older chapter went to). I haven't seen anyone yet who has abused the front page with more than 4 postings.
You can post as much as you like but, unless Erin says otherwise, anything past the 4 newest ones you have up, all of the older stories will be bumped down. Again - to share front page space with everyone.
I would most likely time changing chapters to like every 3-4 days for a story unless its going to be a daily serial. But, there is no rule for how often you can change stories or chapters, just how many slots each author can have up at any one time. And that is subject to change per Erin depending on posting traffic at any one time too.

I know all of that except I thought it was only 3 stories.
No I wasn't commenting or asking on the process but more of a "good form" kind of opinion.
Again I'm not complaining about the process or how the admins handle it or bump stuff down. I was just wanting an opinion is all.
The 3-4 days is great if people can write like that but I never know what comes out in my writing some stuff goes good some stuff gets stuck.

It was three
A few months ago, I changed it to four. :)
When I set it at three, BC was nearly the only game in town; FM, Sapphire's, and Crystal's were all down or not accepting new stuff. BC was getting 70 to 140 new stories a week. At that time I set the maximum for any one author on the front page at 3 and the maximum time on the front page at 5 days. For a short time it was 2 stories and 4 days and even at that we needed 60 slots on the front page for new stories to keep it that high.
Now that FM is operating again and stable, BC gets 50 to 100 new stories a week. Part of the drop is probably due to our own period of instability and posting is up in recent weeks as the new configuration proves to be very fast and stable.
A lot of stories posted are new chapters in serials so they push their older sibs off the front page, but we have two or three authors who sometimes post 3 or more stories in a week. Which is good. :) I try to keep BC flexible for the authors and friendly for the readers.
Current standard is 4 stories per author and 6 days. Also, there are only 30 slots on the front page right now because that was about how many was needed; posting is picking up a bit so I am thinking about changing that 30 to 40.
