In doing some research, I found that in certain populations, Menarche could start as late as 17 but that was 40 years ago. Now, the average start of Menarche has fallen to 12.75 for the upper limit.

The reasons for this decline in age are too well publicised to mention.

Elementary School

This has become a problem in some elementary schools. Teachers and staff unprepared for girls as young as five or six reaching menarche. What I don't know is if average age for menopause has also declined.

Breast Cancer

This will probably have a negative impact on the fight against breast cancer, decreasing the average of onset. If the age for menopause remains unchanged, a larger percentage of the population could ultimately develop breast cancer. How will the world react to a noticeable increase in preteen pregnancies? The shifting age for the onset of menarche may have far reaching affects.

Obvious consequences would be more abortions

... as there is potential for 10 year olds to have children due to Bad Things Happening to them more than likely or some mid-teen guy taking advantage of her. Sex education will need to come earlier. Problem is we will now have to deal with really immature minds in bodies they are not really ready for.

*sigh*

And adults these days just do not have time to stay home to supervise.

Plot development using late menarche

The project I am working on depends on late Menarche without the use of puberty retardant drugs. Now days Menarche (this means girls) is anywhere from 7-12.75 years old.

I am fairly certain that my sister's mense started later than 16 years old, or more. That was about 55' give or take.

I'm not going to say more about this. It would spoil my work.

The size of the girl

is important, menses starting when they reach six stones or 84lbs, and people are getting bigger.
