Ok folks it is predicted to snow in San Antonio. Its teased us before with little bits that melt as soon as they hit and other times its all ice. The last snow we really got was 1985. That was a fun time the city was paralyzed for days schools were closed. Anyone who had a 4x4 made a killing in cash pulling cars out. I will believe it when I see it. And of course I work all day tomorrow so I will probably be the only one dumb enough to drive in. Oh yeah I said this would happen in my Christmas story, well its a few days late but I'll take it. Bundled up smiles, Jenn.

Well...

How deep was it in '85?

Peace be with you and Blessed be

8 to 12 inches in some

8 to 12 inches in some places. I know all you Northies are laughing at us. I'm not sure how much we are supposed to get tonight. Its supposed to start coming down at 2am central time.

When I lived in San Antonio...

...back in the 70's, I recall that having the weatherman just predicting rain or snow would cause the accident rate to go up.

Is it any different today?

Nope still the same :(

Snow in Phoenix Land

I've been in the S.W. metro area since '79. It's a little cooler here than in the central city. The most snow I've even seen here is about 1/2 an inch three times, at around 7 or 8 AM on a winter morning. It's melted in an hour or two.

OTOH, sometimes we've had good sized winter storms that rain here in the valley, 900 to 1600 ft elevation, but have snow levels down to 3000 - 4000 ft. The valley is ringed by mountains, higher and more of them to the N.E. In the clear day, after the storm has passed, it's really amazing to see that we are partially surrounded by snow capped mountains. With snow on the mountains, I'm reminded of being in Salt Lake City during the winter.

Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee

Bundle up and keep the gas tank full :-)

I spent part of a motorcycle trip in San Antonio in August 2011, and it was the hottest weather I've ever travelled through on a bike. Whew... it was like riding into a giant blow-dryer. I just can't imagine snow falling on the Riverwalk. Inconceivable! :-)

And my kids

And my kids are hoping I don't have to go to work in the morning. The last one I remember was in 94/95? It was nothing but snow and ice. Being in the army we was out on maneuvers and it was the last day. We was stuck out in the field for another 2 days. Fun, fun. NOT!

Jenn, I lived in SA during the 85 snow

It was unbelievable. The 410 loop was empty - only time I've ever seen it that way. hope this time ain't THAT bad!

well.....

this northerner cant say much as to whether that much snow is to much snow as i had 3 feet piled up at my apt door and had to dig my way out. that's just one snow storm here. it took me 3 days to get my drive cleaned enough so i could get out. Don't ask about the streets as they are still doing them weeks later. Yes snow is fun yes i hate &$#@$%# winter(brrrrr)and right now i just seen a brass monkey loose it balls.(sigh)i wish you safe driving in your version of winter. me i will just hug my pet dog for warmth and pull the comforter over my head and wait for spring to come (shiver)

Well, I guess it happened!

Had pic's an' all on weather channel this mornin'! LOL. So Jenn, go forth snow bunny and make snow angels! Giggles, Taarpa

Well if it did hit I missed

Well if it did hit I missed it. By the time I woke up to drive in it was just rain. So much for the real winter in San Antonio. Back to summer in two months :(

Can not handle rain, let alone ice. Nothing quite like have some dummy tailgate you as close as they can get, or being passed 30 MPH fast than I am (and I am driving the speed limit). Common sense is exceedingly rare.

they are actually tame here

When I lived in W. Seattle, I had a 22 mile, 2 hour commute to work. Mostly due to accidents, almost daily. People get into too much of a hurry to drive safely. I actually began wondering if we could impose capitol punishment on driver who had accidents not caused by mechanical failure.

I miss the snow

Since moving back down south, I do miss the snow however that didn't keep me from almost being killed yesterday. An 18 wheeler, driving too fast had to swerve into another lane to keep from hitting another truck that cut if off. Can you guess who was in the other lane just coming back from lunch.

Is fearr Gaeilge briste, ná Béarla clíste.

Broken Irish is better than clever English.

I am glad you are still here.

The highways are where I think America has lost it's gentility the most. If only we would drive a bit more considerately. Many less highway deaths would occur. The accident rate would go way down. And everyone would actually get there and back again with less stress and more time.

Oh to dream,
