I wanted to take a moment to talk about my last couple of pieces. First, to put "Night Entries" to bed, I wanted to mention that its sort of Maeryn's fault. I was reading her story "Trick of the Mind.", and I kept seeing the little blerb at the start saying it was for the challenge "Written from the heart." I started thinking - what if I wrote something from the heart? What would it look like? And then the idea of an autobiography just seemed to fall into place. Then I made the choice to write it like I had a diary in those days, and the story flowed from there. I'm hoping having faced these demons from my past, I can now put them behind me.
Second - "Just Swimmingly". Just a bit of fun with the idea that even genetic girls struggle with their appearance, really. The idea of someone afraid to use the change rooms, and hopefully, making the audience think she was transgender, and then pull the rug out. I'm glad it was well received.
Third - my little essay "On magically changing genders' was originally going to be part of a story where so many people have changed gender they have to create a "What to expect when you change genders" type of pamphlet. The story died, but I liked the essay enough to give it a shot.
Last - "Baby talk". For this one, I took the idea of sympathy pain, and tried to take it as far as it would go without the protagonist actually turning into a woman. I originally intended to have it revealed that the neighbor was behind his experience, which is why she can assure him he will get it again when his wife gets pregnant again, but then decided against it.
Well, what's next? I'm having enormous fun working on a piece that comes out of all the time I spent playing D and D as a kid, and I also have a couple of other light, fun projects ready to go, so hopefully, this is a sign of a positive trend, not only in my writing, but in my life as well.
Till my next entry, kids.
