Okay, my day is better, well a bit. I took my daughter to the SSA to get a replacement SS card and while I was there I decided to talk to them and see if I could get my gender marker changed. The woman initially asked if I had my birth certificate. I did not but I explained that I was a MtF who had undergone transition and that this had caused problems with jobs in the past. She talked to her supervisor and came back and said that they could just change things for me. I was blown away. So another legal thing taken care of with no fuss. YAY!!

Yay!

It's really surprising, that they did it sooo easily, and not just that - that they believed you so unreservedly!

According to my wife and all

According to my wife and all our friends, I pass incredibly well. There is no question apparently. I don't see it but in this case I have to defer to other people as they can probably see me more accurately. I think the woman at the SSA was surprised when I told her I was trans.

Passing issues.

I agree that it is posible to pass, and I have been incredibly fortunate because most people just see me as a tall woman. I'd say that 1 in 100 clocks me. I think voice work is probably the most important. Not only pitch but inflection and sentence structure play heavily. My muscles have gotten so used to it that I find it almost imposible to find my old voice. Hopefully, it is lost permantently. :) Not furrowing the brow is important, and knowing where to look when encountering another woman is too. You look them right in the eyes and flash a little smile, but you do not stare, because women have much more important things to do than look in each others eyes.

Notice, I have not mentioned clothing. I wear almost exclusively long skirts and long sleeve blouses as I do not want to be seen as trying to attract a man, so therefore am no competition to other women.

One skill that is very difficult for even a T brain to develop is inventory of surroundings. My female roomates can make a single pass through a room and if asked later, can be extremely accurate in remembering exactly what pieces of furniture are in the room, what color, where the lamps are and a whole plethora of details that I can not keep up with. I have often wondered if there is a way to teach that to T folk?

Gwendolyn

That's not...

That's NOT a "skill" generally available to all genetic females, Gwen.

I actually do better at that than my wife or daughters... But, yes, it IS trainable.

Anne

Always a good thing...

...When things go the way we want them to. Isn't it? I'm glad that something, at least, worked out for you today (technically yesterday by about 1.5 hours)

Peace be with you and Blessed be
