A reminder of my first crush

I was having a chat with my girlfriend Kylie the other day, and the subject of my earliest crushes came up, and I thought I would share with you all about it. She was my cousin, and five years older than I. I met her because we spent a lot of time with my aunt when I first came back from overseas, and so I got to know her a little. To me, she was amazingly beautiful, graceful, and kind, and I was smitten from the first. The funny thing was, I also wanted to grow up to be just like her, and it apparently didn't even worry me that I was at least physically a guy trying to model myself after a girl. She moved away while I was still in my teens, got married, had a child, and died young, and I still think of her on occasion. Ah, well.

I rediscovered my first crush...

...Lorraine was the neighborhood girl who was my sister's best friend. The most embarrassing moment in my life was standing on a chair in the living room being used as a dress mold for my mother and having Lorraine see me. I was about seven. Part of me was mortified and some of me, even today, was endearingly thrilled. My other 'self' is friends with her through Facebook. I went on to fall in love with, date, marry, and divorce my 'childhood' sweetheart, whom I have also connected with and reconciled via Facebook.
