Taxonomy upgrade extras:
Netflix has a lot of different things available. Among them are some special Ed Sullivan Shows. I just got a DVD with the full shows that contain (I think) the 2nd and 3rd Beatles appearances on the show. To get to my point: The 02/23/1964 show also has a puppet group on it called Pinky and Perky. That caught my attention as both Susan Brown (Billy Two Shoes) and Jamie Hayworth (Susie and Jeffrey) have used those names in recent stories. Were the puppets famous, or is this just a coincidence, or is their another tie in that I'm just not familiar with?

They had their own TV show
They had their own TV show on the BBC in the late 50's - early 60's. As they were virtually identical, their names tended to get used for pairs of items that looked alike. My sister was quite fond of the program and later named two of her cats Pinky and Perky.

They were piglets ...
... who were song and dance marionettes . IIRC they never moved individually so I guess they were literally tied together by their strings. Their voices were rather like the Chipmunks and probably used the same speeding up the tape technique to achieve. A bit after my time, so probably late 50s/60s at the earliest, but I remember seeing them occasionally on TV. They were very popular with children

Thanks for the Feedback
Everything is connected. I Googled them. Wikipedia even mentioned that they were on the Ed Sullivan Show with the Beatles. I even saw a clip of them on YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA1nTaSrfB4 ). Cute, but not as interesting as The Happy Hippo Sings I Like Big Butts with Dancing Dog.
I remember Pinky & Perky
the singing and dancing piglets - when I was a kid, I thought they were brill. Nowadays, they just leave me feeling embarrassed, compared to the sophistication of todays TV shows, they were dreadful. I suppose there's just no future in nostalgia.

Don't Feel Bad
I loved Howdy Doody and Captain Kangaroo. Then there was this local morning cartoon show with a live host with a duck puppet attached to his arm (Uncle Jimmy Weldon and Webster Webfoot). The high point was when Aunt Bernice would come on to advertise the specials at the local Mode O' Day women's wear store. It was pretty much all that was on.
I know what you mean, and yet ..
To a really young child, everything is new, and even something we adults, and older children think is unsophisticated , is still new and exciting.
They don't haven't learned about the difference between a sock puppet and the Muppets. ( I suppose you saw them in the UK ).
For that matter, back at the time of Pinky and Perky, on those same Ed Sullivan shows, an oft repeated act was merely a hand, with makeup to give it eyes and lips, pretending to be a woman. And apparently, the adult audience ate it up.
So what seems tame and old fashioned to us can still be entertainment for a young child.
It’s not given to anyone to have no regrets; only to decide, through the choices we make, which regrets we’ll have,

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
