Book Review: A social comedy on ‘detransitioning’ asks: Who is anyone to judge?

The entire review is interesting and presents unique perspective on transitioning and on DE-transitioning; a concept I never knew existed.

The author is trans; "Peters often aims her barbs at transgender people like her."

"“Detransition, Baby” is that rare social comedy in which the author cuts people up not to judge them, but to show how we fail to fit together."

"Reese wonders why “a bunch of New York men wearing flannel and slamming whiskey is seen as a sorely needed release of their barely tamed and authentic masculinity, but when she, a trans, delights in dolling up, she’s trying too hard.” The point isn’t just that gender is performance. It’s that desire is so bound up with gendered performance that people often can’t even notice it. Until a trans person does it, at which point they are judged."

"For trans people, detransitioning is an explosive and controversial topic. As Peters’ characters make clear, anti-trans writers and organizations have used the existence of a small number of detransitioners to delegitimize the decisions of the vast majority of trans individuals who maintain their transitions."

I'm sharing this book review in the hope that it provides insights that you/we may have never considered before. Knowledge and insight are a good thing.

It's Not The Trans Part.

Having lived as a woman for 16 years, I feel qualified to comment. There are places in the world where gender boundaries are considerably less well defined than in the "Western" world, but you can find them on your own. In my ideal world, the Judeo/Christian folk would have had the sense and compassion to allow folk to figure all that out in peace.

For me, Transitioning destroyed the world that was left behind. One could easily live as a woman part of the time and as a man when it suited them. The sad part is there are far too many busybodies who like to put their noses into other people's business.

Peace.
