I'm posting this here, because I think that readers who might otherwise enjoy a particular story are skipping over it because they're making certain assumptions about it that miss an important point.
Julie 0's latest story, "Change of Venue" (click here to read), explores the essential nature of what makes a person. Call it "soul" or "personality" or whatever.
Nominally a magic body-swap story, Julie's story goes much further in examining the issue of personal essence than any other story of this genre that I've read. I think it makes a great conversation starter on the whole subject of character-survival vs. character-death, or in this case, character-theft.
I really found myself liking this story, not only for its spirit of survival, but for the growth and perfection of the protagonist.

Sounds like a typical Julie O, story, just chock-a-block full of insight and character development. :) Got to get around to reading it. Blame a lack of focus lately. I want to read the whole thing and haven't been able to sit still lately long enough to tackle a longer story.

I Read "Change of Venue" Earler today
I agree that it's a good story. I've read and enjoyed several of Julie O's previous stories. I found it interesting that the new Ashley was a much more successful person because of the personality and ethics elements that came from Ethan. I expected the new Ethan to fail as a partner for the reasons that made Ashley originally only partly successful before.
Essence
I read Julie O's "Change of Venue" at FM and left a comment there. What is interesting is that Julie actually responded to a comment and left some information about some other stuff she has planned. As for Change of Venue I loved it. Ethan as Ashley was successful as her for the same reasons that made the firm make him a senior partner. Regardless of the magic it was the soul inside that made the difference. This story like Julie's others are insightful and thoughtful. For that reason if I see one of her's I make the time to read it.
