I'm Sorry, but

I don't really understand.

We celebrate Pearl Harbor day, the last big attack on US soil and the end of WWI. Why don't we acknowledge victory over Germany and Japan? I don't know the dates and it's not cuz of my Alzheimer's. I don't think I ever memorized the dates. I have calendars with all kinds of "days", Patriot day, grandparents day, but nothing about VE day or VJ day. Why don't we acknowledge the Oklahoma City bombing, the second worst terrorist attack in modern US history? And don't get me going about the genocide of the Native Americans.

If we should grieve the lost of life, what about the Rwandan genocide or the Indonesian tsunami. These killed orders of magnitude more people than 9-11. Are we so jingoistic that only American lives count for anything? I think many Americans are!

Sorry again. My mind is confused from neurosis, chronic bad depression and Alzheimer's. When I try to think about 9-11 and all the BS about it, I just go back to Humanism and think that all lives matter, but people all over the world die horrible deaths everyday. Death happens to everyone. If 9-11 hadn't happened and those people hadn't died that day, many would be dead by now, 15 years later, from old age, disease, traffic accidents, gun violence, suicide, etc.

I wrote this to get people thinking about humanity as a whole and that jingoism is an anti-human thinking/belief I'm probably saying this very poorly, but maybe some of you/us can sort of understand.

Hugs and Bright Blessings,
Renee

Actually they still are!

VE day, may 8th, 1945, and VJ day, sept 2, 1945, are still remembered in ceremonies on the respective dates. 9/11 is just garnering a lot of attention, because it was so recent. Also, many survivors are are still mourning the loss of friends and family.
But still, I myself feel that our leaders have not learned from ww2 or 9/11.
