Was that summer?

I certainly hope not but there is a marked change in the weather today.

Yep, the run of warm, sunny days that have welcomed Spring has, today, been replaced by cooler, overcast weather. It's still dry for now but you need a cardi on. The warm weather has meant my 80% health level midweek has climbed a few points, i'm still a way off where i'd like to be but i'm definitely on the upward curve.

It's very easy to fall into a repetitive rut when exercising, it's far too easy to end up doing essentially the same walk/ride, i must admit that i often find myself heading for the same destinations each week using almost the same roads. Thursday, whilst the destination was still one of my regulars i decided to use a significantly different route to get there, a route that involved a chunk of non tarmac. The bike path to Bath then after transiting the city centre i headed for the Avon & Kennet tow path for the several kilometre stretch past the Dundas & Avoncliffe aquaducts to Bradford on Avon. Its level, a reasonable surface and even with some schools already off for Easter, fairly quiet.

I returned to tarmac, traffic and some actual climbing in the historic town, heading more directly east to Melksham where i picked up the lanes around to Lacock before heading into Chippenham for my lunch stop. 60km in, i was ready for some extra hydration to my usual cuppa. The return back across the Cotswold massif had a bit of tailwind assistance even as i mixed things up with a few more kilometres of 'not tarmac' byway before the drop back to east Brizzle. The metre count was only 550 but i stopped the GPS at 103km and feeling much better than after Tuesday's ride.

Friday i headed up to Kingswood followed by some gardening, cucumbers and eggplant planted and in the greenhouse. Most of the bed planted stuff is now making an appearance, peas, beans, onions, taters, carrots, beets, i even picked the first rhubarb of the season.

Saturday morning arrived and whilst i was enthused for a ride, i wasn't sure where. In the end i made my way to Severn Beach where i stopped for an alfresco lunch before taking a loop north and east for the return which pumped the distance up to 65km and a surprising 450m of climbing. It was a relaxed day, exercise without too much rush.

Today? well first off i have put up chapter 35 of Smell of the Crowd, Bit of a Bind, the penultimate gig of the BlauHase Hessen Tour.

I'm out for a short walk shortly before cooking us up something for dinner. Looking forward to the coming week, Aunty Bev is talking about a trip to south Wales and as we head into Easter weekend i'm planning on a trip to Imber, i didn't get there by bike last year.

I guess that's about it, i'll be back midweek,
Tschuss,
Madeline Anafrid
