yep, its finally here, the last chapter of my Dad's life.
Tomorrow i'll be taking the train up to GOC where, on Sunday, we'll be spreading his ashes where we did the same for my mother seven years ago. My mood has been quite down all week, on the one hand i get to see my kidlings which is always good but just as i was getting used to Dad's absence, we take two steps back and it's all been coming back again. It's only a short visit this time, i'll be returning on Tuesday but because of the time table i probably won't get the chance to post on Sunday.
As i was saying, this week has been a bit bleak, the weather has settled into a damp greyness with a side serving of quite cool at times. Monday i didn't really get going with anything, just a short walk to get a few bits for #1 Grandson's Advent calendar but that was it.
Yesterday, Tuesday, i decided i'd just do a mucky burger ride, the Big bike had developed a flat so i rolled out Foxy in its stead and set off for an easy ride. I literally got to the 3km point before gerdunk, gerdunk, gerdunk, yep, you guessed it, Foxy had a flat. Once it was fixed I nearly went straight back but instead i cut across to Warmley where i got soup and a cuppa before returning to the house with just 16km clocked. My supply of spare tubes has dwindled to zero so i grabbed a fist full to repair - one of my least favourite bike jobs which is why there are at least twenty more tubes awaiting attention. Of course, once that was done i sorted out the Big bike, that tube had burst for some reason whilst parked up, the tube was completely destroyed, at least i had some newly repaired tubes i could fit.
Of course it was Bonfire Night, the fireworks have been going off nightly since Hallowe'en, on the night it was more of a whimper, certainly there were fewer of the big explosions we've had.
Today looked a bit warmer and with a supply of tubes, i felt the need to make up for Tuesdays disastrous outing so i donned the bike gear again and headed down to Bath to get in at least some miles before my trip north. I've done a few of these rides lately, @ 50km with about an hour or so exploring some of Bath's less known and used roads. It being Bath that usually means a good dose of short, sharp climbs, dead ends and unexpected views, today lived up to that premise with visits to lofty Alexander Park, the serene splendour of Priory Park and the Palatine Bridge beforereturning to the River Avon where i stopped for a bacon and egg sarnie with a cuppa before tackling the 20km ride back into Brizzle.
So there we have it, another 'exciting' few days in Brunel City.
Thats it for today, i'll be back soon, but for now,
Tschussie,
