Just did a search and couldn't find my site on Google. It only came up with my site when I put in very specific keywords that I knew couldn't be in any other combination on other websites. But things like "Transgender fiction" didn't list me in the first three hundred returns. Same for "transsexual fiction", "transgender stories", "transsexual stories" and then combinations of stories with only story.
Damnit.

You'll need to promote the site, so people link to it.
Most search engines give you greater prominence based on how many sites link to your site.

It's also important to include the keywords you expect people to use, when searching for your stuff, in your pages (not visible, of course). Heck, some folks even use unlikely keywords to pull in accidental users.
But, as far as precedence in the list - it does help to have more links... (Or pay Google, of course.)

I have been told by prople who design Websites to include what are called Meta Tags. Apparently, they are, as it was described to me "the magnet" that draws people doing a search to a site. The more the better, and it is best to include all possible combinations including misspelling or variable spellings: eg Sissy, sissy, siSSY, sisy Sisy, sissie for the same word and then all possible combunations of tales stories etc.
I do not know how to do it or why it works, just that is how the system works.

Spellings in meta tags, yes: however, as I understand it Google completely ignores case in it's search terms, so you can save yourself some time and space by not bothering with the variations there.
