Here it is, folks! The first television advertisement for a unisex dress for men and women!

It's shapeless, ugly, and terrycloth, but hey.

Not so new...

Monks and priests have been wearing them for simply years.

Except for the ugly "boy" colours and cut, it's simply a shirtwaist dress with a short cape.

It's even "unisex," as some denominations which ordain women as priests have a similar outfit for women.

The Point Is, The Marketing

When was the last time you saw a television ad for priests' or monks' robes? Be honest, now.

Also, note the casual social settings depicted in the infomercial. Nope, something is definitely new here.

None, of course, but they show men in dresses all the time

3 arms?

I don't no anybody with 3 arms!
I know somebody with no arms, but he's armless enough!!!

Actually he has 3 heads and 1 leg also, the bus driver said to him the other day "hello, hello, hello, hop in you look armless enough".

Now, that would be an interesting towel, but not much of a market until the Zingclowns take over earth!

I wouldn't wear one ...

... but unisex clothing is familiar to me. My wife and I often wear identical clothes when we're cycling. Even so there's rarely any confusion as to our gender. Perhaps it's the beard - I keep telling her she should shave it off :)

Those are not dresses

Wrap arounds made of terry cloth have been around for a while. Someone just decided to put three arm holes in the towel to give one a chance to do other things instead of worrying about the towel slipping.
I would have been more impressed had they actually been dresses (Zippers/buttons in the back) designed in a manner for men without the pleats for a bra fit.
