SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Bank of America, Verizon, Chipotle and other companies have pulled advertising from a Sacramento radio station after talk show hosts referred to transgender people as "freaks" with mental disorders.
During a May 28 show, one of the three hosts on KRXQ's "Rob, Arnie & Dawn" show said he would hit his son with his shoe if he put on high heels. Another said he would tell a boy he was "a little idiot" if he asked to wear a dress.
Officials with Bank of America Corp. and Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. said Friday their companies pulled advertising because they found the comments offensive.

My two cents: I love capitalism.

Oddly appropriate comment
I agree with that host. Every TG kid should have a copy of "Shoes" to help those around him or her understand.
You mean that's not what he meant?
Break the Chain
Comments like those from those two reflect the wife beater mentality. Those two are probably beyond help. The chain has to be broken somewhere, but even the best, most sincere and truthful education can be canceled by ignorance at home. It is so sad. Portia

Advertisers
Here is a list (and addresses) for KRXQ advertisers. The only way to control these vicious -- things is through their pocket books. Free speech dosen't mean you get paid for spewing hate, and we all have the freedom of association (and to shop where we wish too.)

Of course, it was all just a joke -- A little early morning entertainment -- They're now telling us.

Of course they are
The hypocrisy here in Sac town is amazing sometimes. Despite being the capital of what is nationally 'supposed to be' the most liberal and Democratic state in the country, wanting to cultivate an arts community; there is a remarkable level of bigotry and lack of support for the arts. This sort of thing doesn't surprise me... but it sure disappoints.
Thanks, Lilith
Reading the above link, I found a link to the Huffington Post, where previous unacceptable behavior by these DJs is detailed, including a previous FCC fine of $55,000.
And it also details more of what these shockjocks said about TG children, how can these people even be on the air? What broadcasting group would let them near a microphone?

Re: Advertisers
Thanks for the list, Jan. Suggestion: Mark on your list which ones have already pulled their ads, so we can send them a thank you note and pledge to buy the products they sell.

Pulled ads
These are companies that have pulled their ads:
Chipotle
Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group
SONIC

And the Radio station has removed there Advertising list from their web site, too.
[of course, Michale Savage is still making a fortune in the same region, but I'm still going to get a burrito and a Peach-lemonade for lunch today.]
Oh also!

Get in touch
The more people from many other locations get in touch with the advrtisers and the station and make them realize this is not confined to the local audience and their stupidity has wide and far-reaching effects.
Shock Jocks
Will say almost ANYTHING to get reactions. *sighs* Does this excuse them? No. Not in the least. The comment with the links to vendors advertising there - getting them to stop due to the stations support for bigotry is one of the few that will get their attention - typically.
As long as this kind of attitude continues and is tollerated, it will exist.

This is offensive to me too.
When my therapist gave me my letter of recommendation to the srs surgeon, she said that I should never have had to see an active therapist because I always knew who I am, and she said that is a rarity among transgendered persons. She said in her recommendation..."Barbara Lynn Terry is not mentally diseased in any manner, and it is my recommendation that she is ready for her reassignment surgeries." She did put a few personal comments in there too, and the surgeon was very appy that he was working with me to comlpete my goal...but that goal isn't all the way completed.
What these radio talk show hosts don't seem to realize is that before we can have our surgeries we must be cleared of any mental instability, disease or defect. Maybe if they were forced to take a 2 year course in transgendered studies, maybe they would be more understanding. Then again maybe not because stupidity is forever while ignorance can be cured by education.
This broadcast must have been heard by thousands and as such probably swayed understanding or accepting people to agree with them...I mean after all it was on the radio so it must be true...right? This is what most people without a good education think. If it is on the radio, television or in the paper it just has to be true...NOT!!!

You give them too much credit
You give them too much credit when you say that they don't realize that it requires being cleared of mental illness.
They know, they just don't care. Shock Jocks don't care who gets hurt as long they get ratings. And when they get called out on it, they fall back on, "Just kidding. Can't you take a joke."
Hugs,
Kristy
Just kidding....
can't you take a joke, is not even an excuse but a last ditch effort to save their FCC licenses. When I passed my amateur radio exam I was asked if I had any prejudices towards gay and lesbian people and those who are transgendered..of course being transgendered I said no. But that did't end there. There was a verbal questioning too that I had to go through. When we transmit our signals we cannot be discriminatory or prejudice against any person or group. There is a very heavy fine if we are caught spewing hate, discrimination, or anything else that is a violation of FCC rules and regulations, we get a very heavy fine and are lucky if our licenses are't suspended or revoked.
These talk show host seem to have a track reord of spewing hatred, and it is time that the listening public demanded this kind of broadcasting be eliminated or even outlawed by the FCC. This is the 21st century and for those still holding onto what they learned from street corners and a biased religious group, need to really look at themselves and ask ... is this the way I want to be treated? I don't have any respect for "shock jocks" like .... well we all know who they are. The US supreme court has even said the right of freedom of speech cannot be forbidden, but the person or persons claiming freedom of speech are responsible for any consequences of that free speech.
Bigoted, discrimintry, and hateful speech comes under the fighting words doctrine and the offenders are responsible for the consequeces of those fighting words. The broadcast of these "shock jocks" creates fighting words, and they should have their FCC licenses suspended pending a hearing before the FCC.
