I've temporarily removed the AdBrite generated ads from the website until they answer me about the new ads that started appearing today.
The ads have three different problems:
1. Two of the ads are simply lies, telling people that they have won something when they clearly have not. Those sort of ads are temptations for people to visit websites and sign up for email spam and other forms of scams. I dislike such ads but life is dangerous and people have to take responsibility for what they click on, but these two ads are also transgressors of more stringent rules.
2. One of the ads has a blinking background. This should be prevented by any reputable ad distribution agency since it is medically dangerous and just plain FRICKEN annoying. I won't put up with such ads.
3. The other ad has an automatic voice that announces the lie that you have won something. I'm not going to put up with that either and I suspect it opens the ad agency up to lawsuits and perhaps criminal penalties since it is a bald-faced lie, a commercial fraud, transmitted over federally regulated wire services.
The ad revenue from AdBrite amounts to about $45 a month, not worth the aggravation if they do not respond quickly and effectively to ban these advertisers or provide me with tools to easily screen out such ads in the same way they screen out non-family-safe ads.
This is just a head-up to anyone visiting BC who may have been annoyed, irritated or driven clinically insane by these ads. The ads are only a minor part of the revenue for the site and if necessary, BC will do without.
Hugs,
Erin
Thank You
Thank you, Erin. Your actions are much appreciated!
Thank heavens for ADblock Plus under Firefox...
I see no ads anyways...but thanks Erin, you ROCK as a hostess regardless (and FWIW I do see the damn things when I'm slumming in IE :D)

For signed in members ...
... the ads are removable anyway. But these ads shouldn't be inflicted on anyone.

I know
Adblock also does away with most of the graphics or I can block them (like on stories) so printing them doesn't use up as much toner :) Not to mention all the other sites I visit :)
huggies (wait that would be for Angel) err Huggles!
Blinking ads...
are doubly frikkin annoying for those of us with ADD and other other brain um... differences.
I just reloaded my OSs, and haven't bothered to reinstall shockwave flash. That pretty much eliminates the blinking ads, anyhow.

Adbrite ads are back, for the moment
They sent me an approval list for ads, so I checked off the ones I approve. We'll see how this works.
Hugs,
Erin
