A woman who bit off part of her boyfriend's tongue during a kiss is likely to be jailed.
“Tracy Davies, 40, bit off a third of Mark Coghill's tongue after telling him "you never give me smoochy kisses anymore".
Each had drunk a bottle of vodka before the attack at his flat in Jesmond, Newcastle, in October.
Davies was convicted of grievous bodily harm but cleared of the same charge with intent at Newcastle Crown Court.”

This would be a punny story
To be honest after she bit his tongue off it would be tongue in cheek.
Sorry if I offend any one I just had to go for it.

I cant believe she got off
I cant believe she got off on the with intent charge..come on! She should be Jailed for a long time one can only hope. I certainly would be rather disturbed if she gets off with little jail time after causing such injury on another human being.
Drunken defense
"With intent" would probably require that the prosecution prove she was sober enough to contemplate her actions and was motivated by malice. Difficult, since both have been stipulated as being drunk. It's the difference between murder and manslaughter in the case of homicide and the same distinction applies in assault, battery and mayhem charges. In front of a jury, she might have been convicted of intent but a ruling by a judge would likely be in favor of the lesser charge.
It may not be the way one would want it to work out in a particular case but the system is the way it is because this works in most cases over the long term.
