It appears that mention of Gender dysphoria in children and young adults has gone from 1:60,000 to 1:1200 in the last ten years, The overwhelming demand is from biological females. It also seems there is no overall strategy for treatment and following the Cass report, the use of blockers and hormones is on hold.

The Guardian
I know better than to try to read an article from them, but I do get the gist of what they are saying.

Are the figures real?
Could the XX bias, if this is to be believed, be due to young boys being much more afraid to broadcast their feelings/emotions than girls of a similar age? As we all know, its not easy being m2f especially when society in general think its wrong, f2m never comes into the picture, i'm sure many butch lesbians could be diagnosed f2m whereas i don't think the reverse is true.
Of course all the figures really show is an improvement in diagnosis, go back 20 years and i doubt there were any u18 diagnosis recorded by GP's, as we say in archaeology circles, absence of evidence does not make it evidence of absence. And of course as soon as you start recording data you may actually influence the outcome, what GP surgery wouldn't want to tick all the boxes?

Increases in f2m children.
This is not the first time that I've read that the Tavistock and Portman clinic have reported a large comparative increase in patients assigned female at birth - from "a small proportion a decade or two ago" to "more than half" in the latest figure.
Considering
Considering the people who wrote the Cass report refuse to publish the info they based the report on, it's been widely condemned by medical agencies around the world (France, the US and Australia, along with articles in some of the most respected medical journals in the world) and the Guardian is a transphobic rag whose own international journalists have lobbied against their dinner-party dwelling British counterparts I'm not gonna pay too much attention to anything they say.
"the information they based the report on"
Of course they refuse to publish it. They could hardly say " well, everyone at my Bridge Club thinks it's a disgrace, and the Daily Mail say it is too"
The problem is that nobody likes us any more. The TERFs hate us, and the Right Wing think we are lefty weirdos. Still, I am me, and you know what to quote Morgan Freeman in the finest of all movies "go ahead sonny and write your report. Because you know what, I really don't give a sh*t"
"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."
I read the Guardian daily ...
... in its paper format and have done for 40 years or more (I'm 85) and I don't recognise your description of it as either a 'rag' (like the Express, Sun or Daily Mail) or transphobic. In fact I'm pretty sure Angharad reads it regularly as well. It publishes a wide range of articles and, even though it's certainly left of centre in its editorial stance, often ones contrary to that. I'm quite sure it doesn't have a particular view on trans issues but if it did it would be neutral at worst
btw I have never, as far as I know, attended a dinner party and certainly not one comprised of Guardian readers where politics was discussed. More likely to be cycling, sailing or these days aches and pains associated with increasing years :)
Guardian and transphobia
"Two transgender journalists are pulling out of the Guardian’s Pride special coverage due to the paper’s alleged “ingrained prejudice against trans women.”
In a letter to the U.K. newspaper’s bosses, freelance journalists Freddy McConnell and Vic Parsons said they were declining all future work with The Guardian. They were commissioned to write pieces about their experiences of being transgender for the paper’s upcoming Pride special."
Just a brief extract from an article in LGBTQ Nation in June 2022.
Apparently there is a bit of a civil war going on amongst Guardian columnists on trans issues. Still ongoing, I believe.
On the positive side, amongst ordinary people, the American footballer Korbin Albert, ran into a firestorm of complaints both from her national team-mates and their many fans when she posted Christian anti-gay and specifically anti-trans material on her social media accounts. She apologised profusely and walked it back, hopefully sincerely.
Megan Rapinoe wrote: " For people who want to hide behind ‘my beliefs,’ I would just ask one question, are you making any type of space safer, more inclusive, more whole, any semblance of better, bringing the best out of anyone?
“Because if you aren’t, all you believe in is hate. And Kids are literally killing themselves because of this hate. Wake TF up!”
I don't recognise comments about the Guardian in this article
I don't recognise the comments about the Guardian in this article. If anyone with the views expressed in the comments has the stomach to read it and say what they think, I would be interested to read your thoughts.
If 5% of patients received puberty suppressing hormones while 8% received masculinising or feminising hormones, that might just reflect the age at treatment, but it might mean that doctors are happy to go straight to active treatment when appropriate.
Of the UK papers...
The guardian is generally at the moment the more neutral.
Torygraph? That's a fucking lost cause, I won't read a thing they write on any subject, its total propaganda. The Guardian at least attempts some level of balance.
I suspect in many cases increased AFAB numbers are due to the rise and acceptance of ENBY diagnosis too not just F2M. There's a much larger proportion in that direction now than ever before.
Yes social pressure is higher on amab than afab, it would change the numbers a lot. Let's not forget that for decades F2M patients were ignored badly just like the trans community often forgets they exist.
I like Turtles.
