How much of this is true?
I have doubts about much of it, even in Thailand, the surgeons need referrals. I'm also wondering about the motives for meeting those who'd previously rejected her -- sounds too much like bad fiction, and besides, what did she have, a head transplant?
I don't necessarily accept 75% TS are unemployed and 40% kill themselves. If that's the case, and I presume they are US statistics, the APA aren't doing their job very well, and it makes us victims again. We aren't victims, we're survivors, men and women with a plumbing problem.

Actually...
By that story that is posted, I'm pretty sure I know exactly who this woman is. And she went to Suporn, who has a pet shrink that for $500 will write the referral letter.
She's an interesting woman, who still has her own share of demons I suspect. As do we all I guess. I won't get into her personal dynamics, as it is not my place to do so. But she is, like all of us, a product of her experiences. And it does shade her perspective somewhat.
And Ang, I don't accept those particular stats either, although the statistical suicide rate for transpeople in North America runs about 26-28% unfortunately. And no, the APA and places like the Clarke Institute (now CAMH) aren't doing their job well at all.
