Taxonomy upgrade extras:
I'm not sure exactly what was going on but what seemed to be happening was someone was launching six or more searches a minute. Multiple windows? Deliberate attempt to mung the server? At the same time, a couple of crawlers were onsite, so that didn't help.
Anyway, we've turned anonymous searches back off. Seems like the only thing we can do.
Hugs,
Erin and Bob
Searching turned off during heavy load
Searching has also been turned off for everyone during heavy server load. This is going back to the way it was on the other server. By searching, I mean the Search box and Advanced search page -- the Category Browser and Alphabetic Story List will still work for logged in members.
The Search Box allows actual searching of the text of the stories -- so that if you remember that a story has a phrase like "high heel sneakers added something to his walk" you could search for that and find the story.
The Category Browser just searches the Genres, Themes, Elements and other categories for matches.

Erin

Does this mean
I can't search for anonymous writers any more?

My Account / Track
I've noticed that the option for My_Account/Track is gone as well. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess this is attached to the same mechanism as the search facility. Am I close? Or, is this a separate situation?
Thanks for asking that
I use the track facility a lot, so I noticed it gone immediately when I logged in.
I understand the need to keep miners out, but I hope this useful feature can be reinstated.
Thanks to all who maintain this site, it's so wonderful to see such dedication!

I'm of 2 minds... I like
I'm of 2 minds... I like being able to see my OWN track module... And whilst I've used other's track module to look for recent comments they've made, I don't like the idea of other people being able to see MY track module... Does this make sense?

I agree with the others, I love the Track module!
I use it often to track my comments and other people's stories comments that interest me. I guess that it would only be fair for just our registered users, all of our registered users be able to track their comments and others. Not guest readers and anonymous loggers though, they should be duly registered users and part of our community.
This is just my humble opinion on the matter.

Track/No-Track
I'm actually leaning to either Registered users can view their OWN and ONLY their own track module, or an option for a registered user to make their TRACK module public or private if they wish....
But it's just and Idea/Suggestion... And I understand how much work my 2nd option would probably b.

Track temporarily turned off while debugging something
I think I'll be able to turn it back on later. Hope.

Me, I Say That Those Spammers
Causing Erin so much trouble should be made to pay for the upkeep of the site for a year!\
