We're home, we're home!

That's right, as of 2 AM this morning we are back at our place, with my things unloaded, and I'm typing this from my own computer for the first time since January!

My keyboard is much clickier than I remembered :D

Ms. Joyce has been on the phone with insurance folks, car repair folks, and tow companies for two days, and that's ON TOP of everything else like organizing a rental and more, so the next couple days from us are probably gonna be relatively quiet: we have some projects we want to work on if we feel up to it, but most of what we're gonna be doing is resting up from our trip.

The good news:

--My stuff made it to California safely!
--The people of Moriarty New Mexico are amazing.
--The only thing wrong at the house when we got back was a bag of mushrooms that had gone bad in the fridge (stinky, but manageable.)

The bad news:

--We returned the rental today, so no car for a bit (but we have rides if we need.)
--The rental was a 2019 Corolla. Not the worst car in the world... but definitely not on our To Buy list.
--The companies are giving Ms. Joyce a bit of a runaround, as they do. It seems less like malicious-ness than incompetence... but it's still been frustrating.
--WE. ARE. TIRED.

So... yep. We're home, we're safe. If we were gonna get stuck anywhere between here and Arkansas, I feel like we were VERY lucky it happened in New Mexico: beautiful place, not the most convenient for travel (in so many ways,) but yeah. Even in as small a place as we were the Family Dollar had Pride tees on proud display at the front of the store.

Our plans for the next few days are to try and get hold of a new car (can't wait a month to *possibly* get a working one back, don't wanna drive 1k miles to try and get it back either.) Later this evening I'll be taking a very long, very badly needed bath, and this weekend I'll work on unpacking my stuff.

I love my family... but I very much hope I never see Arkansas again.

We love you all, and we'll be updating you with more info as we can.

Yay!

In a sense you really lucked out to landed just past the 'go to jail' square (to borrow a Monopoly meme) and got stuck in a reasonable place instead of winding up in BF**k OK or TX.

It is unfortunate that you guys did not take my advice and not get into an accident but kudos for surviving that!

All kinds of luck...

...in supply! Bad luck to have an accident but how fortunate there was no big truck in the wrong place!

"The rental was a 2019 Corolla. Not the worst car in the world."

"The rental was a 2019 Corolla. Not the worst car in the world... but definitely not on our To Buy list." I drive a 2009 Corolla, bought new in October 2008. If I had to replace it today, I would definitely buy another Corolla, but perhaps a hybrid this time (there wasn't one back then).

Glad you made it home, mostly okay. I was worried about you passing through Tulsa, the self-described "Buckle of the Bible Belt." On one visit I stayed in a hotel across the street from Oral Roberts University.

We made sure to apologize to the Corolla for insulting it

since it WAS a solid car, don't get us wrong... but it was very much smaller than the Sentra (and tighter to get everything we had IN the Sentra into, since we had it stuffed pretty full,) and there were a few features of the car we weren't incredible fans of, like the design of the dash and the electronic parking brake.

Flying too Dangerous

I've flown several times in the last 15 years, but always as a fully covered Muslim Woman. Fortunately, due to my size I can present credibly as a woman. And for reasons I don't understand, my breasts are nice. :) These days, according to the news, it is too bizarre to fly. I think it is due to Trumper passengers. I spent considerable time and money learning to sound like a woman, and to not look men in the eyes. So far, so good.
