9 years ago today, I gave birth to a little girl. 8 years ago today, I signed the papers that made her forever legally not my daughter anymore. It's always such a rough day, week, month every year...

This year it was exponentially compounded by AT&T turning my phone service off, charging me $250 for said turn off, and demanding all past due amount before I can get it turned back on. It's a large chunk of cash they want, almost $900 after all their fees and the 3 months of service.

It was suggested to just ditch the plan and get a new phone, but if you've been following my story at all, I've been having significant medical issues and I really need to keep my number so various providers can contact me.

I'm not asking this community to cover all of this, but anything helps. I'm asking all of my local friends and chosen family as well, and just praying that my network is big enough that we can come up with it.

My PayPal link is https://www.paypal.me/AltDimConsulting and if anyone needs some other way, please comment or message. I've got just about every payment method.

Can't transfer number

What is the reason why you can't transfer your phone number to another carrier?

Carrier

I know you said they won't release your existing #, but whatever you do, don't go back to a normal land line if possible. If you have your internet you can use something like magic jack for your home phone and it's immensely cheaper. I'm sure there are some other voip services out there you can use but Ma Bell type services are a rip off these days. If this is for your cell # then that just blows sorry :(

Yeah, it's my cell :( It's a

Yeah, it's my cell :( It's a business plan, which is why it's more expensive, but that's the only way I could get any sort of plan because my business's credit is decent but my personal is shot.

Porting our old number

I switched from ATT to Consumer Cellular. (Consumer Cellular uses ATT towers so the coverage is the same.) I simply ported my number to the new provider. Depending on the phone you have you may even be able to use your old phone. Their customer service is top notch. I switched both my wife's phone (from Tracfone) along with mine. It was a bit tougher to get Tracfone to release the number, but Consumer Cellular's customer service went to bat for me and got it done.

I switched for cost reasons. ATT was costing me $40 a month on my son-in-law's family plan and my wife's phone was running about $25 a month for a total of about $65 a month. Consumer Cellular cost me $35 a month. I added my daughter (+$15) and upped my data to 10GB. I now pay just over $70 with taxes for three lines.
