An update on how I am doing after the accident I blogged about last week.
I still have no memory of the fall on ice, or being airlifted to the University of Iowa's neurological intensive care unit. that morning. I don't remember anything of that morning, going to work, falling or anything. The first thing I do remember is waking up Thursday morning, 2 days after I was admitted to their ICU.
diagnoised with a skull fracture and 2 bleeds in the brain. The bleeding stopped and they did not have to go in and surgically stop them. What sounded more serious to me was that my heart stopped multiple times during those first two days.
They let me go home at the end of that week, so I have been home slightly over one week now. My vision is still not right, the blurryness is gone but I see double unless I keep one eye closed. Walking is difficult and I have to be very careful as I seem to have lost a lot of my strength in my right hand side and tend to unexpectedly stagger and or collapse in that direction.
I'm not allowed to drive yet, and with how my vision is I would not even if the doctors told me i could. And i've been told to expect to be off work for 6 weeks.

can't hurry these things - the knee i twisted at Christmas is still not back to where it was six weeks later - not that it started at 100%! I'm fortunate in that up to now, all my injuries have been skeletal or muscular, head injuries can, as you've discovered, be very serious and can take a very long time to recover from.

Falling on ice
Was out on bicycle myself on Sunday and wiped out due to ice I couldn’t see on a roadway that should have been sanded. Bruised muscles take time too. Very annoying.

Hi Nuuan,
I just want you to know that your made my prayer list with that accident. I'm glad that you are improving. It's not unusual for you memory to be affected by serious trauma, like getting smacked in the head. Our self-preservation mechanism blocks the memories of unpleasant things to keep us from reliving the trauma. It's method of determining just what to block out isn't too exacting so it often blocks out what led up to the trauma as well.
What you had, with brain bleeds, would be something akin to a stroke, only caused by blunt force trauma so the symptoms you describe would be reasonable. I probably don't need to say this, but just take it easy and follow doctor's instructions. It's more important that you fully recover than anything else.

These ain't fun is a mild statement. Here's hoping and praying that you can overcome the challenges they present but that will likely be a slow (and frustrating) process. Maybe either Davey or David can help you!

I didn't know about this! I've been offline for nearly two weeks. I will be praying for your complete recovery. Meanwhile, make sure you consume plenty of dihydrogen monoxide.

You have a concussion. Your brain has to heal, and yes, nerve tissue does heal, just very slowly. The concussion probably sent conflicting signals to your heart, so I wouldn't put too much worry into it right now.
From the sounds of it, you had considerably more injury than if you were slammed into another player on a ball field, without a helmet. So, you'll get there. You just have to measure progress in inches -but inches will eventually make yards.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Hope the issues fade and heal properly, and that you get the hand strength back. To that end, maybe a stress ball of some kind? Not that feeling like you do is stressful, just sayin' ¬‿¬ Keep a watch out for other symptoms, like aphasia (words you speak aren't the correct words, like saying bridge when saying car while pointing at it), mood swings, other non-"normal" feelings. Maybe keep a diary or set of notes? My father suffered a couple intra-cranial bleeds like that after he fell on some concrete bleachers and we kept notes for him as he said there was nothing wrong until mom told doctor. Delayed effects possible.
Be very cautious as injury effects may not be immediately obvious. 2 family member has TBI injuries. I'd be tempted to put a note in my purse that I had a recent head trauma that ... god forbid you're found unconscious and precious time is lost in properly treating you. 2 bleeds? ICU? Knocked out!? - Yeah, take all precautions.
