Taxonomy upgrade extras:
With all the brilliant computer oriented minds we have here, does anyone know if there is a way to turn off automatic updates to Firefox? I use Windows XP.
Every time Firefox auto-updates, I lose the ability to download videos to realplayer, and I really like that feature. I haven't found any plug-ins or patches that solve this problem.

Try:
From main toolbar:
Tools > Options > Advanced > Update and change 'Automatically Download and Install' to 'Ask me...'.
That may not work anyway, as sometimes the firefox options work a bit funny. If dogears was available for google Chrome, I'd switch.

... or you coukld try ...
... doing as Bob says and unticking Firefox on the 'Automatically check for updates to' section as well. I wouldn't advise it though because the updates are often to correct security issues.

You Shoud Try Video DownloadHelper
It's a Firefox plugin that's available from the Mozila site :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006
There are help screens available from the Video Download Helper site ( http://www.downloadhelper.net/ ). The software is updated frequently, and it works fine.
You really want to keep Firefox updated as most of the updates are security patches. I agree that it's a pain that Real doesn't integrate with Firefox all that well.
