When, in the course of human events, you wish to recognize and award kudos to an author, but they wrote a an excellent 45 part series, do you:
a) award the kudo to the FIRST part?
B) the LAST part?
c) all 45 parts?
d) the main SERIES page, IF it exists?
e) none of the above?
Personally
If I'm really enjoying a series and it keeps me reading for that many chapters then I think it's worth it to kudo each part. It's a good way to let the author know that they're doing something right and that those reading are enjoying what they're putting out there.

Don't take me too seriously. I'm just kitten around. :3
My take on kudos
I eventually decided that if I read the whole chapter then I give it a kudo. This has three benefits.
1) More kudos -> more author satisfaction -> probably more awesome stories for me to read in the future.
2) It gives the author a better idea of how many people actually read the story as opposed to just looking at the first few paragraphs.
3) It acts as a "I've already read it" flag. And with my memory, I really need this.
The Convention...
...I'd say, is to kudos every part, for all the reasons the previous commenters indicated.
That said, I don't always comply: if it's a serial that I'm reading in real time and the first chapter has me reserving judgment as to whether I'm going to want to read the rest, I'll often leave it blank until another chapter or two is posted and I make a decision. At the other extreme, if it's a story where a lot of chapters have already been posted when I get around to reading it, I'll usually go to the "printer-friendly version" so that all the chapters will come up at once, and that leaves me unable to kudos the individual chapters.
