I wish there was a way (and if there is I haven't found it) to see who (if anyone) has favored my stories. It would be interesting to see.

there is!

under your login name on the right side of the page, click on MY STORIES. that gives you all the stats for your posted material. This also assumes Erin added you to the author file list so it can show up for you. PM me if you dont see that link for MY STORIES.

Author's Page

Yes, I can see the "My Stories" page. There it tells me how many hits the page has had, how many votes, how many comments, weekly tallies for votes and for page loads. But what I was wishing for is a page showing who and how many have marked the stories as "Favorites" so that it shows up on their profile. That information isn't on the "My Stories" page.

I just discussed this with 2 other BC/TS authors, and ...

... we've come to the conclusion that many readers might consider making this information available to others, an invasion of privacy.

I've noticed the 'Add to Favorites' button but never used it, and barely wondered what it does.

My two cohorts hadn't ever even apparently consciously noticed it, as their comments were along the line of, ~I didn't even know you could save favorites.~
Thus, any information you did get is likely to be statistically poor.

One of the most difficult things to give away is kindness.
It usually comes back to you.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Favorites Feature

erin's picture

Favorites are there to be used as bookmarks by interested members and as a way of marking such stories for notice by anyone who browses member profiles. They are public, so don't use them if you don't want others to know which stories you have marked for memory so you can easily return to them.

They are public bookmarks and that's really all they are. there is currently no way to gather these for perusal by authors or others and I have no intent of creating such a feature. It would be only mildly intrusive but I just don't see any real utility in it. What could one do with such a list?

A different sort of feature I have considered would be to have "fan pages" for authors, stories or genres or story types where the fans of such could have their own private forums, blogs and member lists. I haven't done so mostly because of the work involved in updating something like that to the new software that is likely to be needed in six months to year. Also, I just haven't gotten an idea of a big demand for it.

Hugs,
Erin

Okay then. If that is the consensus of the site owners/administrators, I will bow to the wisdom of those who know more than I.

It would have been used just to see who my audience was, that's all. But as I said....

Agreed

I even asked Erin awhile back if I could "hide" that information, so that only I could see it. I'm not very pleased that it is on public view and very seldom use it as a result.

Interesting. I DON'T see it as an invasion of privacy. If I like a story here, why not share it with others that are looking at my profile?

I'm curious, why do you see it as an invasion of privacy?

Your choice

If I want to make public which stories I like, I leave a comment. Otherwise, it is nobody's business but mine what I choose to read or not read. The same reason I would give a law enforcement officer who asked to search my car or home without a warrent. I've nothing to hide, but my personal business is just that: personal.
