Bikini Beach: A Promise to my Mother (title is link to the story and area the rest can be found)

While reading the above story, I was reminded of a story with a similar story line, and with some sites disappearing and some authors DE-Pubbing stories, I thought I'd post this

I'm pretty sure that the story is in Elrod's Bikini Beach Universe (but I may be wrong)

I also cant be sure of the author

The story's protagonist has a strained relationship with their mother, but unlike "A Promise to my Mother" the mother isn't terminally ill.

Protagonists car changes (mentioned several times)

While male the protagonist is in some kind of management role as a job, (might be wrong with this part) and is not liked much.

when female is not in management but is respected more

Protagonist switches back and forth several times and finally decides to remain female because their life is more fulfilling as a whole
