I'm NOT a Female!

How long has it been since I purchased lipstick? It's been awhile a really long while. My peach lipstick finally ran out on me. Oh I still had a kazillion colors of red but last peach or apricot, or natural colors. Time to break down and pick up another tube. I absolutely hate buying lipstick as the color is NEVER the same as the one we ran out of. Walmart was a joke unless red is one's color. Heck I have three or so dozen of red. I want peach or natural. Walgreens had some and again, yes you guessed, RED, but they also had a lot of gothic shades. (ugh, what kind of female uses burnt chocolate, or ash brown, or velvet black). I asked the sales lady if they had peach or natural? She led me back to the lipsticks but the displays were scattered around several counters and another aisle. Do they now put lipstick out as a treasure hunt? If one can find all the places it's stashed a prize is given???.
Okay, the sales lady found a not quite there peach but I could live with that for now. The tube is sealed so I can't pop the cap and see the actual lipstick but she assures me it is the same color as the tube. Six dollars plus I'm head home with my find thinking I had a bargain. Some of those lipsticks were priced at eighteen dollars.
There is no way, in you know where, I'd give that kind of money for a tube of lipstick..., unless Bru, Sam, Jill, Erin or one of the girls loaned me their favorite party dress and we were going out on some billionaire's yacht. Then maybe but only maybe.
I'm home, I slit the wrapper on the lipstick so I can apply it and see if it works with me. #@$*&%$#@*%&$# it has a little foam tip at the end of a stick! What in the snackafratzal is that! Crying always helps. It didn't help. How in the blazes does one apply lipstick with a sponge? Life was difficult enough without this nonsense.
When I go back to the Women's Clinc for a checkup my lipstick is going to be red. I am NOT applying lipstick with something that looks like a foam Qtip.

Wish I were...

Well, if lipstick color is the deciding factor...

I would wear red, peach, black, or green...

Now, putting it on with a sponge? That seems like an alien conspiracy to me!

Lipstick

Actually the ones with the foam tip are usually a much longer lasting lipstick (don't rub off like a regular lipstick) and are normally a lot more expensive. I stopped using them because I occasionally still have to present as male and it was a royal hassle to get it off. Otherwise check out Mary Kay, they used to have a really good selection.

It is not cheap, but you can order custom lipstick on-line

You can get almost anything on the internet, so when I saw your blog post, I went on line to search for "custom lipstick color". This lead me to www (dot) findingferdinand (dot) com. You can specify your own shade and they will make it and ship it to you. ($30 US plus shipping and tax.) If you are rich and desperate, go for it. Otherwise, playing around with their color wheel or blending their standard colors, but not actually buying anything, might amuse you for a little while.

There were, of course, other search results that I didn't look at. One offers to re-create discontinued name-brand colors. Some may be cheaper or perhaps there is a cosmetic store that is close to your location that could make something for you.

Good luck.

In the UK

that would be termed lip-gloss and can be just a single element you paint on with the applicator or sometimes there is the colour element upon which you apply the gloss, sometimes that is referred to as lip dye.

Much of the time I don't wear makeup of any sort, so I can't say it really worries me and I see myself and identify as female.

Also in the UK

I suspect that if one specifically asked for "lipstick" and were offered something that turned out to be a sponge on a stick, one could take it back to the store and complain. It was not what one asked for. In the UK we have laws that cover matters like that, I don't know what rights there are over that side of the ditch.

Lipstick Rant

As most can figure out, I'm not adverse to Reds. Not if I own that many different colored reds. And I do. It's the principle of the thing and the message one wishes to send. Lipstick shades are as important as the style of clothes ones wears, the type of perfume one uses. A peach (and there are literally dozens of peach or natural colors) is a very gentle signal she's wearing lipstick and didn't need to shout it to the world. She's a woman in her comfort zone. This all plays out where one is and what the situation is.
A good brand of lipstick will be with one for hours. The companies have put millions into their research to make sure the woman who wears their brand likes all the attributes of what she consciously applied to her own face. Like all the rest of one's makeup the purpose is to make her look better than what Mother Nature provided. From the shiny cherry liquid red (yes I have it) which shouts look at me, to the more natural colors that take a conscious effort to know if she's wearing lipstick, all have purpose. Most never take the mental gymnastics to understand consciously why she looks approachable or she's ready to party. Sadly a lot of women never think about what they are doing when they apply makeup or pick out the clothes they wear. They do it because they have always done it that way.

Look at the top picture. That is the shade I use and the signals I wish to send at certain times. I don't want to shout to the world, I'm here, take a look.
Last but not least, the liquids take a steady hand, mirror, and a steady platform (non moving room) to put on correctly and get it where it needs to be to emphasize the lips. Not practical to reapply when out in public. The tube is second nature. I had to think for a second as it has been so long since I gave it conscious thought. Three fingers on the tube, little finger touching the face to find the right location, and apply, no mirror needed. Hey we aren't Hollywood nor models in a photo op. Move the lips to even out the lipstick and it's done.
One last thing. A good brand of lipstick will stay on for hours. If I only wanted to moisten my lips, Chapstick would work but it lasts as long as an open candle flame in a blinding snow blizzard.
Lips of the female are one of the points of interest of the male gender, provided they aren't staring at her breasts. The total picture ladies, not just the clothes, the hair style, the figure, or that smile or frown on one's face. What silent signals are you sending?
