Sorry, I'm a geek.
LJ is "Livejournal", a blogging social site. There are a lot of people who go there and use it to post their diaries so others can read them. A "cut" is a link to more of the entry, and it's sets things up so only a small excerpt is available on the main "friends" page, and the rest has to be clicked on to see it.
