During A Global Pandemic, Idaho Lawmakers Prioritize Attacking Trans Kids’ Rights
The state legislature has yet to pass any measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus, but it has found time to pass two unprecedented anti-trans bills.

The two measures, informally known as the birth certificate bill and the sports bill, would have a deep and lasting impact on the LGBTQ community in Idaho if they became law, LGBTQ rights advocates told HuffPost. The sports bill bans all transgender and intersex girls from competing in girls sports in public schools throughout the state. The birth certificate bill prevents all transgender and gender non-conforming people from changing the gender marked on their birth certificate to match their true gender identity.

It's unfortunate, but Idaho is the reddest of the red states, is anyone surprised? I'm sorry to say, this sort of thing would probably pass even if we weren't in the midst of a pandemic.

People are facing things that frighten them and they can't do anything about them. It is not surprising that the folk in Idaho jumped on this as something that they "could" change.
I'm post op, mtf and I agree that transgender folk should not compete against genetic women. I've been out for a long time and still stronger than other women. As to the Birth Certificate thing, that is just spiteful.

Speak for yourself. I am on par or weaker than a lot of women I know. A blanket prohibition is ridiculous, I bet there are women stronger than you. If you find one who can out muscle you, would that change your mind?
Strength
Gwen, you may very well be stronger, but that is not universal, or even common. I suspect it has a lot to do with the age that HRT is started. I myself was weaker than most girls my age even before I started HRT. I suspect most fall between the two of us.

I don't think it's fair for trans girls, especially at an age that they have probably just begin hormones, to compete against genetic girls in sports.
As for the birth certificate law? I disagree with this one but I really doubt it is being done for spite. I would imagine they are looking at the possibility of a trans girl that has had her birth certificate amended to show her as female, using this to get around the other law and into sports.

Are you on hormones and have personal experience?
Do you have statistics to back up your assertion?
The standard has always been one to two years after starting hormones if I recall correctly, is the olympics standard. If trans girls are already on blockers, then this law still affects them.
If you get on hormones very early in puberty then the difference is nil.
Point is, she may have been a muscular hulk before transitioning (I obviously don’t know that for a fact) but a lot of us are at best at parity with genetic women.
Even at the time I transitioned, pre-hormones, I could not keep up in running with a high school female acquaintance. So yes, it is unfair for genetic girls to compete with me as I get outclassed all of the time. Unfair I say!

If you can vote in Idaho, do so. The vast majority of us that can't can continue discussing the whys and wherefores. It is important to work out our differences so we can speak with a unified voice. If half of us oppose a law and the other half support it we diminish our voice.
