I have developed a habit over the years of watching the news, well actually listening to it, while I am getting ready for work in the morning. As I am usually in a hotel room during the week, I generally select whatever local network station is easiest to find (excepting Fox of course - I would rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick!), but it does allow me to at least keep up on a little bit of what happened overnight in the world.
So this morning, I saw a report on Dwayne Wade and his 12 year old transgender daughter; it included an interview on Ellen as well as a video he took of his daughter talking about herself.
The man is my hero. I only wish I could have had a father like him when I was a child. She is a very lucky girl to have such understanding and supportive parents.

From the time I was thirty until I was forty-five I played basketball 300 days a year. Because of the nature of the game players have to look out for each other. Dwayne Wade was in close proximity to a LOT of other players being hurt. That is a a strong testimony to his lack of character.
I'm glad he's made the right choices with regards to his daughter -- but he's a thug.

Or you could simply say that the game is a lot more physical at that level, especially versus how it was years ago. Either way, how you play a game that is your chosen profession and how you treat your family and others around you are not necessarily the same thing.
I find it necessary to do things every day in performing my job that I might find distasteful or not enjoy doing - but that is the nature of my job. The same is true for most people I would think. But that doesn’t make me a bad person or a thug.
Hell, just yesterday I had to rip a woman who is eight months pregnant a new asshole. I was professional about it, but I know very well she did not enjoy it at all. But then again, if she and her company had performed as they were tasked to, I would not have had to say anything to her other than how are you feeling and are you looking forward to the birth.
Doing your job is sometimes like being a parent - you have to do things that you don’t enjoy and may hurt someone, but in the long run it is the right thing to do and doesn’t make you a thug.
I cry every time I fire someone - but I do it anyway. It’s what I get paid for, and I am very good at my job. If the person I fire isn’t performing as they should, I let them know and work with them to improve. If they don’t, they get terminated. I am certain that it hurts them, and it hurts me to do it - but I do it nonetheless.
I would think that basketball is pretty much the same. If an opposing player isn’t performing up to the task, then they get taken to task for it. Sometimes they get hurt.
How we treat people in general is what we should be judged on - and no matter how you feel about him professionally, this one act of his makes him a hero to me. Standing up for your child and doing it publicly say something about a person.

You're correct to admire a parent for doing what a parent should do.
A young person is in a very vulnerable position when their body is arguing with their mind over who they are. My father was a saint. He was as gentle a person as he could be and as could be found at that time. Yet he often severely criticized me for "acting like a calf." That was as close as either of us could get to putting a name on how my feminine nature presented itself.
in a day when fathers corrected behavior with the back of their hand he was probably heroic in not beating me for being me.
Basketball players leave themselves exposed to injury by flying three and four feet above the court. My own son had a thirty eight inch vertical so I often cringed in both soccer and basketball when Thugs would undercut him.

The other day I was out with a group of executives in my industry. the topic of Trump came up. I listened for as long as I could and then exploded. I said that only a Thug treats the most vulnerable amidst us as like he has treated our trans military. I ended my remarks stating that I find it very strange that the Christian right conveniently forgets that Christ told us we will be judge by how we treat the most vunerable.
You could have heard a pin drop. When I got back to my office I sent a long email to all who had been part of that discussion elaborating on my thoughts.
A week later the most right wing in the conversation green-lighted a large project for me. Yet none of them will ever hear Trump being a Thug about trans soldiers again without considering what I said.
Dwayne Wade is considered by Shaq to be the best guard he ever played with. If you're a fan you know what that says about Kobe.
When a player of that stature plays like a Thug -- it gives license to others to be Thugs on and off the court.
We don't need more Thugs.
Strange world indeed where a father gets praised for supporting a child and a Thug gets praised for harming his opponents.
Like you I've had to fire many people. Even when those people stole money from me or worse I never kicked them when they were down. A Thug would make an example of the person they fired. My father never would have and I won't either.
I quit a job once and the company I worked for switched the locks on the door. That hurt. Twenty years later I learned they had also widely and wrongly accused me of stealing money. It was their way of scaring other execs from leaving. That cost me millions after I had worked very hard for them for six years and made them millions. They acted like thugs because they were seventeen percent of the national market and used their weight to prevent me from getting contracts with certain companies at a critical time. I succeeded despite them but would have been much more successful had they acted like they should have.
That was one of more than two to three dozen times in my career when a Thug caused me damage. I know what a Thug is.
All father's should be praised for being good fathers. All Thugs should be called out for being what they are.
This is Not a political discussion. please don't anyone act like a Thug by dragging it down that route.
