too bad...
It kinda sucks, putting this story on Amazon ruined Snowfall's 'Lyssa Kordenay missions' story. The two were meant to bounce off of each other, so there's this massive gap between chapter 39 and 40 that depends on you having read Embracing Justice. Can you do that? Noooo not now you can't... so yeah, greed just screwed over another author.
Life, unfortunately appears to be imitating art in this case.
I read the first book of the series when it was one this site. I enjoyed it as it had a decent plot even if the protagonists at the time seemed a little over the top. It is a good story, but I kinda lost a bit of interest in the follow-ons after the relationships were established, so I put it aside for a time, which now appears to be forever, since I was saving them for when I really needed something to read. Still, while I may have in the past, I don't begrudge authors from making a bit of coil for their work even though I still prefer to give back to the community for all the stories I got to read for free. Not that I've been able to give much back in the last few years due to a problem with deteriorating attention span and focus. I'm working on changing that in the future. It's just that it's like pulling teeth to write a few paragraphs now compared to when i was at the top of my game and crank out a new 5-10k chapter every day plus fix errors and reword things on the suggestions of my editors/proof readers. I think maybe the loss of that support structure is why I'm having difficulty now. I have no one that is busy with their own stuff to bounce ideas off of and get different perspectives, but enough about my issues.
I would just like to say that it absolutely freakin' terrifying watching the inception of the type of LGBTQ+ religious Right beginning to form as more than a fringe group into something all too similar to what was described in this story. As a centerist (the only thing keeping my toe in the conservative camp is the 2nd Amendment, because you can bet if the 2nd falls, the 1st will be right behind it and sites like this will get shut down or blocked in the US, but enough about my politics) I believe in EVERYBODY'S right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, even if I may disagree with their choices. As long as they aren't physically hurting anyone outside of offending their religious or philosophical sensibilities, I believe in live and let live. As a Christian, I loath organized religion because it's easily corrupted and used to lead people down dark paths of hate and intolerance all too frequently.
At any rate, I just wanted to say that it's horrifying to see the seeds sprouting IRL that lead to the fundimentalist movement that gained control in this story.
Thanks, Jessie for this strangely prophetic story.
Cheers,
Calamity Cordite
