There is a small shop called "The Store" which also has the local laundry attached. This place is located in Bettyhill which is in the far north of Scotland. For those interested, it is at 58.53°N 4.22°W
That's 58 North. Beyond this going north is the Arctic.
This place serves great food. The Mushroom and Tarragon soup was great and very warming on a day that was dominated by very strong N.E. Winds.
Anyway, this sign caught my eye as I ate the soup.

The flippin' beardies have got everywhere! Mushroom and tarragon - wot a poncy combination. What happened to scotch broth? I bet they don't even do haggis!
Given where you are i'd be looking for a slab of Aberdeen Angus between bread. Then you'll have the strength to help the local secret agent fight the forces of evil that are sweeping the highlands.

Broth and Haggis
The mechanic from the local garage got the last two helpings of Broth so there.
As for Haggis, I had some for Breakfast. It was on the menu again this morning along with square sausage.
I had lots of great seafood in the west and north of Scortland. Lightly smoked haddock with a poached egg on top all on top of some great black pudding with carrots and new potatoes. That's from a small pub in the middle of nowhere!
Didn't even look at the steaks. I can get Highland Cattle steaks at my local Farmers Market.
Down to Goathland via Hartlepool tomorrow. Hope it warms up. Today was awful weather and cold. 5-9C and rain all day as I rode from Forres to Dunbar via Perth and Dundee.

Supposed to be improving into the weekend down here.
And don't do your funky gibbon in Hartlepool, they've never lived it down! If you have time, Guisborough is worth a look - some nice pubs to eat in and very much a real Yorkshire town. Gisborough Priory isn't much but the woodland walk is nice this time of year.
Not a lot in Goathland! Not even any goaths, few sheep maybe. Check out the church mice while you are there though. Try to avoid the ford's around there - they can be dodgy in a car when topped up with rain and in flood.
I've spent a lot of time on those moors, in the right weather there's nowhere, evn in GOC that's better. Get the wrong weather and they are desolate.

Chilly
Those temperatures sound down right chilly and while not familiar with the weather in those parts seems low for heading into the summer season. I've done a bit of conversion in my head and find that we didn't get up to 20°C today with periods of rain. At 9:00 PM we stand at 15°C, maybe plus a bit and projected to drop to 10°C overnight. That is a good bit chillier than it should be and the rain is being a nuisance for doing anything outside.

Be more like high teens to mid twenties here but it's struggling to reach mid teens c atm. Up in Scotland it will be cooler - it's quite a long way north but even so it's unseasonably cool this year. (London is maybe 5c warmer than Yorkshire 200 miles north. you can feel it getting colder as you travel up) and then there's the Altitude - even a couple of hundred metres can drop the temp by several degrees.

Goathland
has got some steep hills - or holes, depending on where you look at them from. Found them exploring long ago on my 125.
Apparently a railway model shop too. I didn't find that!

Made it propery into GOC today and am staying in Bingley (5 Locks Flight is nearby).
What is it with West Yorkshire and effing speed cameras. I saw more on my ride through Leeds and Bradford today than I'd seen on the entire rest of my trip. I counted 6 on each side of the road in a 3 mile section of one road. I shall be staying well away from here in future.
Before the rains came I did meander over the North York Moors. Some great roads and some lovely well out of the way places. I shall not name them as I really don't want them spoiled... :) :)
Swanning off south tomorrow. I'll wave as I pass Sheffield en-route for High Peak.

Wouldn't need the cameras if people obeyed the limits - including motorised 2 wheelers! And W)orks is blighted by a large immigrant population who don't consider driving laws apply to them (we have a smaller but similar problem in Steel City)
Certainly are some great spots on the NYM, you can still find quiet spots even with all the grockles.
High Peak - you do pick some places! Might sound pleasant but it really is a dump! Certainly not on any 'need to visit' list i'd ever make!
While you're over that way you should visit Flash, the highest village in England. Not a lot there but some great views east and south across the Staffordshire bit of the Pennines - oh and a photo op name board! Lol

Why High Peak?
There is a very important Pump House (on the canal network) that I'm going to visit. Several more landmarks to visit on this trip including Walton On Sea's Pier, Wakes Coln Viaduct, A coffee factory near Derby and... the real Wayne Manor (near Nottingham)
