I had to go downtown today to see my doctor. It turned out to be a fairly good visit.

A large part of that is the fact that I have a new doctor now, one who has had no issues with listening to what I have to say. Considering that I have had, with more doctors than I care into get into details about, bad history due to them NOT listening, she's a miracle.

Okay, the good news is that I had some tests done a few weeks ago after my previous visit, that being my first with this doctor. She was right on top of getting tests organized; in fact, I ended up going in the very next afternoon to do those tests. Talk about fast work! *giggles*

Anyway, one of the tests, well, technically two of them, were ultrasounds of my shoulders and of my abdomen. The shoulders were because I have been feeling a fair bit of pain in the mid area of each shoulder over the last couple of months, slowly becoming stronger. The abdominal one was because I have been feeling a weird point of pain in the rough center of my abdomen about two inches below my lowest rib.

According to the doctor, nothing showed up on any of those ultrasounds, so if something is wrong, it's possibly stretched/pulled muscles. There was no explanation given about the result from the abdominal ultrasound, which likely means nothing to discuss about it.

The next test was X-rays of both of my hips because I've been getting intense pain in them, the right one more so than the left. As with the ultrasound tests, they couldn't find anything unusual, so as far as they can tell, my hips are fine.

The doctor's explanation for the pain in the hips is that it is likely due to the Fibromyalgia or stretched/pulled muscles like the shoulders.

We talked about using Tylenol® for the shoulder and hip pain, but for it to be effective (actually stop the pain), I'd have to take a handful. That is not a recommended thing (technical overdose), as the maximum allowed dosage of Tylenol per day is eight 325 mg or 500 mg pills.

The fourth test that was done at that time was body mass density. Doctor said that came back well within normal ranges, good result.

So after getting the results, we discussed things a bit and we're going to get me set up to get physio for my hips and shoulders.

That's an excellent result, as it means that I might get some(all?) of my flexibility and mobility in those joints back. That would be great.

Another good item is that she will be working on getting me set up for using Wheel Trans here. Wheel Trans is an alternative travel method for people with mobility issues. It allows you to travel one way using only a TTC (transit system) ticket, token or cash fare.

The exception to the "good" side of this visit is that there is a possibility I may have bowel/colon problems.

With that in mind, she is working on setting up an appointment for me to have a colonoscopy, a test I would rather avoid if possible. However, with the issues that I have or may have, doing that test will give her the info she needs to decide what we can do about it.

I'm hoping to get back to doing some writing fairly soon. I'd like to get at least one decent night of sleep, it would help a lot.

Re: I'm glad you found a doctor who listens

Me, too, Dot. Me, too. As for the pain issues, we're hoping the physio will help with the hips and shoulders.

The abdominal issue, they couldn't find anything, so nothin I can do at this point.

maybe check your back

if your back is out of alignment with your hips, it can cause pulled muscles and bowel problems. still follow thru with doctors tests.

take care

Glad you have a good doctor. I hope you continue to have confidence in her. I just got done a round of physical therapy on my shoulder and they used a strange technique called dry needling. It worked for me.

I also have a great friend who has Fibro and uses an edible cannabis cookie each night to help her sleep.

I hope you feel some relief soon,

Leslie

I had one a number of year ago.

When I was scheduled for mine, a friend put me on to Dave Berry's column about his colonoscopy. It worth a read and though humorous it's pretty accurate as to what you can expect.
