Two-in-one?

Uh... what happened to the old-style "Masks 4 - My Summer Job"? From the summaries on the Kindle samples:

  1. "Template" chapters match the ones from the original "Masks 1"
  2. "Template the Intrepid: A Learning Experience" has a (new, short) Prologue and 12 unnamed chapters, while the old "Masks 2 - A New Start" had no prologue and 11 named chapters;
  3. "Template and Energia" has 13 chapters with titles matching the ones in the old "Masks 3"
  4. "Template: Vengeance in Vegas" has 10 chapters, again with titles matching the ones in the old "Masks 4 - Vengeance at (Las) Vegas"

My best hypothesis is that "My Summer Job" (a shorter tale) got turned into Chapter 12 of "Template the Intrepid," but that would probably be out of continuity with "Template and Energia". Did it get skipped and will be published at a later date?

My summer job

My summer job is attached to the end of Masks 3, Template and Energia. Template: Vengeance in Vegas is Masks 4, the old Masks V.

Confusing? You betcha! :)

The problem stems from the

The problem stems from the fact that these tales were originally written as short installments for the TSA Talk and TG e-mail lists. The timeline was developed later, and has problems. Every attempt to correct the chronology of the first few stories leads to more problems.

I'm working on it.

I think I've got the timeline

I think I've got the timeline settled, now. I'll continue checking as I add more details. The timeline is at:

Please let me know if any drastic fubars are discovered.

One thing I've done in recent revisions is remove or alter things which referred to Copyrighted works of fiction too directly. They were intended as a usually tongue-in-cheek tributes. Though even previously I think they counted as parody, I decided not to take that chance.

People familiar with certain fantasy and SF books and movies can still see indirect references to such works as Philip Wylie's _Gladiator_ and the movies _The Invisible Boy_ and _Desk Set_. :-) None of this appears in the actual stories, except for mention of the computer from _Desk Set_. The stories also mention Stratton fabric, which is from arguably the best SF movie Alec Guinness was in: _The Man in the White Suit_.
