I was so pleased to read that 17 year old Georgie Stone has just been announced as the State of Victoria's nominee for 'Young Australian of the Year'. At less than eleven years old she was granted permission by an Australian Family Court to take hormone blockers. As a result, and her subsequent appeals for people like her, young transgender Australians no longer have to go through the expensive court process to take blockers, although they still need to do so to get hormone treatment. She has become an advocate for transgender teenagers and appeared in a number of television programs including 'Australian Story - About a Girl' which you can find on Youtube. Last year she became LGBTI 'person of the year' and now her tireless advocacy for transgender children and teenagers, supported by her parents, has resulted in this prestigious nomination. I'll certainly post again if she wins! Good luck Georgie - you're a star.

Nice to see children

Nice to see children receiving help at an early age, not having to wait until their teens.

Sigh

It is little of me, I know, but the surge of jealousy and sadness I feel for what it could have been ....

I am not a girly girl type, more middle of the road so there were no outward, obvious 'only like girl things' moment. Playing with dollhouses and dolls never appealed to me but I was very nurturing and preferred the stuffed animal route.

Unfortunately it is the neutral gender preference child that flies under the radar and would make a diagnosis a lot harder.

Date of announcement

I should have mentioned that the announcement of all the Australians of the Year takes place on 25th January next year, but just to get a State nomination is quite an achievement.
