I feel a bit sick

When I first came to BCTS you may remember I was rather demoralised by the place where I had been posting my stuff before. Although all my new work is primarily posted here, I still post some in 'the other place' for a few readers who like my stuff, and haven't wandered over here. I started posting episodes of OHOP last week, and was startled by the positive reception, which gave me a warm glow of vindication (though it's more likely to be due to the improvements BCTS has made to my writing).

This evening when I went there I found that the basic premise of OHOP had been taken and used as the basis for a really grubby porno story. I know I'm being precious about this; it's not plagiarism and my story can't claim to be original (its themes are pretty standard ones), but still I feel a bit sick about it being done while mine is still appearing.

Don't Feel Bad

You came up with an innovative idea, and you are executing your idea in a wonderful and creative manner. You know the old saying about copying and flattery. It's true. If what you were doing wasn't very good, people wouldn't be copying it.

Ah, but your wonderful story

Ah, but your wonderful story will live on in people's memories while the tawdry fake will rapidly fade into the obscurity it deserves!

the best remedy

thanks for that... I've made a start on the next chapter now, which I'll post tomorrow sometime - it's missed my daily deadline, but should be a bit more substantial than the last few :)

You can bask in the satisfaction ...

... that it's your story that's being poorly copied and be justifiably a bit smug.

To be fair to the plagiariser (though I don't see why I should) OHOP did start out in a surprising way and I was thrown at first by the way you seemed to be heading. It was quite unlike your other stories with its air of femdom and the touch of sado-masochism (which is so fashionable in the upper reaches of motor sport these days ;)). That's changed but I still think the story is going in a different, and slightly less sophisticated IMO, direction than your other work. In spite of that I look forward to each episode and enjoy the way you're playing with your characters.

btw where is this 'other place'?

off to a bad start

When I began OHOP I didn't think it would get past half a dozen episodes, so I didn't want to take a good'un from my ideas list. Femdom was a big change from my usual stuff, which was part of the attraction too. The problem was my heart just isn't in writing that sort of thing, but I didn't want to abandon another project with so many false starts littering my trail. All hope of a speedy conclusion was lost when I became involved with the characters; would it be too pretentious to say Penny is me, while Stevie is who I want to be?

It's mutated into a 'Love Actually' type rom-com, though with a few undercurrents (going with the sub/dom theme I've tried to not exactly reverse the relationships, but show how it's the apparent submissive who's in control); there is a slightly more involved subplot but the only clues to that so far are in Hindi :)

As for the plagiariser, her story hasn't had much in the way of response so far (just one rather catty remark).
