A hero is gone

After the debacle of Grisham, Chafee and White, it took great heroism just to climb aboard such bombs. After Apollo 11, one had to be crazed to consider flying to the moon and back. However, Gene was a scientist. This was unexplored territory. We're still analyzing the samples he brought back. Using them, we have developed testable hypotheses of the creation of the moon and its age. Knowing this, we can approach other planets, their moons, asteroids and other space junk with knowledge and understanding, asking valid questions and seeking valid answers. Because of Gene Cernan, we humans just might make that small step into the universe

Well said

This could be a eulogy. It brought a tear to my eyes.

never knew

This man was totally unknown to me - we all get blase after the first epic event but as in the previous comment, climbing aboard a glorified bomb, he deserves the credit and respect of the first man who set foot on the moon. May he rest in peace, gazing down from the heavens again!

Space, the final frontier

It has been said that NASA's biggest accomplishment was making space exploration boring.

Gene gave great commentary on later space flights

AND holds the -- lunar --land speed speed record at something like 8.3 MPH in the Apollo 17 lunar rover.

A class act.

And I'm from Wisconsin where we revere the late Deke Slaton -- of the original Mercury 7 -- and James Lovell among a few other space farers.

P.S. The Dallas Cowboys lost Sunday in the NFL playoffs. I wonder what team beat them?

Let's see...it was the Aaron Rogers..Great game. Green Bay at Atlanta will have two great QBs playing. I was watching the game from our pool. :-)

Uh Huh

The pass/catch between Rodgers and Cook was one of the best ever. Hope Jordy Nelson can play!

RIP Gene

Dad said that early astronauts were heroes. As a Star Trek fan, I love astronomy and I wonder if there is a planet that is more advanced in trans issues.

I mean, if MtF can become biomoms on the planet, or FtM can be biodads...
