...before it fell off the front page. But here are some stories that I'm frequently happy to read again. They're listed alphabetically by author:

Angharad - Totally Insane

Enjoyable 36-parter (short for an Angharad tale) about a young kid whose talents run to babysitting and locksmithing. Fun, especially after we get past the setup.

Grover - Strange Happenings in Ragnorak County

One of Grover's earliest short stories, but it's beautifully set up and executed. In a farming community in the rural (U.S.) deep south, animals are mysteriously disappearing; our teenaged protagonist's brilliant best friend theorizes that a UFO is responsible. The locals may not stray far from traditional stereotypes, but they're treated sympathetically and not ridiculed for it.

Tiffany Shar - Dollar Runaways

Probably my favorite novel-length tale here. A bright preteen and his mother are on the run from their father/husband, who's a key figure in an Italian underworld organization that runs a chain of dollar stores all over the U.S. as a front for drug smuggling and other operations. To disguise themselves, the boy loses three years and becomes a girl; his mother drops a decade or so and becomes the girl's adult sister, while both the Family and the FBI --- which they're avoiding because of leaks -- try to find them.

Sleethr and Draflow - She of the Jade Skirt

Novel length in nine parts. Certainly the bloodiest of this list (and the dozen or so runners-up), since the lowlifes who start the action and the Aztec goddess whose old altar they desecrate aren't known for subtle solutions. Here's the teaser: "Melody and her family were on their first family vacation in sunny Mexico when a parent's worst nightmare happened and Melody was kidnapped. Retired Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Donald 'Wolfman' Wolf is dying from cancer when an ancient Aztec goddess makes him an offer he can't refuse. This is their story." You get the impression that co-author Draflow, who died during the story's production, really knew what he was talking about here.

Valentina Michelle Smith - Jury Duty

Another oldie, about a cross-dresser who takes on his fiancee's jury duty assignment while she's working in Europe. A fun tale, so realistic (as far as the court parts are concerned; I can't speak for the cross-dressing) and well-written that I literally thought of it when listing my own jury experience.

Thliwent - Going There and Back Again

Really good SF tale, posted in ten parts. The "other" kind of time travel tale: the male protagonist is reliving his previous decade, this time as a female friend of his original self and his wife. To quote the teaser: "The life of a physicist can be troubling, at times, as the universe doesn't always play well with others. But even the universe can't break a true promise."

(I had a Tanya Allan novel listed here as well, but now that she's also offering it on Amazon, I'm not sure its presence here should be publicized. Let's just say it's the one where the protagonist finds new life as his Swedish cousin.)
