It's a famous diorama of resistance in a Nazi-occupied town.

Hogancamp probably isn't trans, but created Marwencol after being bashed for cross-dressing and losing 16 years.

Art can be soothing.

Working on art can be soothing. And that was a lot of work. It is worth checking out the article.

he is a remarkable human being

A remarkable person, with an even more remarkable story to his life. He is definitely T, and might be 'transsexual' but I think probably not. I saw a documentary about him that was very good and I think 2(?) hours long, a few years ago. The sprawling diorama has to be seen to be appreciated. Preferably, you get the artist's own verbal explanations as you view it. Yes, it definitely is art. And I think you only get to experience 50% of the art piece if you only see it but don't get to hear him talk about it, too. And see it at his house. The gallery showing was nice but doesn't hold a candle to the full experience of the documentary. I only wish I could visit him as a guest for a couple of weeks to take it all in and to let him know how appreciated his work and his life are by kindred spirits like me. (I was a miniatures gamer w a deep interest in WW2 Europe starting almost as young as my crossdressing started, and my compassionate side regarding war was/is stronger than even my interest in gaming and military science, art, and history, and is almost as strong as my need to crossdress...used to be. I don't have the energy anymore, but that's another story. Anyway, his own gentle yet anxious compassion is perhaps the strongest foundation in his art. It is beautiful. Yes, I encourage everyone to seek out that documentary, maybe share a viewing of it with someone close to you. :-)

I got the impression that the scenes he creates are changing regularly, I also got the impression that doesn't enjoy too many callers. I suspect as well that the beating he took did some major psychological damage which, though resolving through his 'art', means he has some problems with people especially men.

It would also appear that he only likes hose and heels, so his cross dressing is minimal - though he apparently has 300 pairs of shoes!
