I was a patient of Dr Mark Schreiber for my malignant melanomas in the mid 1990's. Dr. Schreiber took good care of me and I never had any complaints but he lost his medical license close to ten years ago. Now he was arrested for mutilating a patient's penis.

A former Boynton Beach plastic surgeon who lost his license to practice medicine seven years ago remained jailed in Broward County on Tuesday, charged with a botched surgery that left a man with a deformed penis and unable to have sex.

Mark David Schreiber, 60, was arrested at his home in Tamarac on Friday. He is being held without bond on a charge of unlicensed practice of health care causing serious injury.

In his home, investigators found home breast implants and other items indicating "he may have been doing clandestine surgeries on other people who don't know or who don't care about his history," said Sgt. Carl Zogby of the Hialeah police, which issued the arrest warrant.

In August 2008, Schreiber pleaded guilty to four felony charges of practicing medicine without a license in exchange for a sentence of two years in prison plus a year of probation.

He also paid $15,000 each to four women who say he botched their lip, eye and breast procedures. As a four-time convicted felon, he was barred from seeking or obtaining a medical license again, according to the plea deal.

Schreiber was practicing without a license in January, Hialeah police say, when he was hired to remove from a man's penis a "filler" material that had been injected into his organ to make it longer and thicker. Instead, the man was left with a deformed penis, and was unable to function sexually, police said.

The person who allegedly performed the original surgeries, Nery Carvajal Gonzalez, 48, remains a fugitive, police said.

Schreiber met the patient in February at a Hialeah warehouse, police said. He was paid $1,000 to remove the filler from his penis.

The victim told police he was given five unknown pills as sedation, lost consciousness, and remembered little until he awoke at home the next morning to find his penis swathed in blood-soaked bandages.

The man removed the bandages to find he had been "mutilated," according to the warrant. "The victim's penis was now incredibly small, yet very swollen and the skin around the shaft had been removed and was raw," the warrant said.

Two days after the surgery, the victim told police he spoke to Schreiber and was told what he was experiencing was normal.

The man was told "he should just put two sticks [on] either side of his penis and wrap it up to keep it straight," the warrant said.

After that conversation, the patient was never able to reach Schreiber again, the man told police.

Not going to make any excuses for what the doctor did now or before, but I feel kind of sad he has fallen apart like this.
