Rusty was euthanized this Feb 06th, one day short of his 20 birthday.
We had him cremated as it was winter with heavy snow on the frozen ground.
We planned to bury his ashes near his sister in May.
Simon was well, other than a couple teeth that had to be pulled, up until a week ago.
He went off his feed. Seemed less energetic but we thought it might be stress from a house guest or allergies. We was a shy but loving animal.
Sis took him to the vet today.
They quickly determined he had lymphoma. Or at best a very large cyst PLUS lymphoma – IE cancer.
They were going to ultrasound him to see if an operation was of any benefit when he quickly declined and died.
Our best guess he was roughly five.
Love your family and pets while you can. It can all end so fast.
This was Rusty and Simon a little over a year ago.

I love these little furballs too
I have a neighbor's cat who loves visiting me and my partner. It would camp out on my welcome mat looking for me if he or she figures out that I was going to be around all day and it loves taking a light doze on my lap when I let it. Many a times I have been asked it it was my cat. One time I found it right outside my door with single digit temperatures (fahrenheit!) in the middle of the night.
I don't even feed it but I give it abundant pets when I see it and it in turn rubs against me enthusiastically. Unfortunately it is an outdoor cat and I worry it might get run over one day. Luckily my street is relatively low traffic and the cat is very smart about motorized vehicles so I just hope it stays healthy for a good long time.
It's amazing how much an animal just appreciates receiving loving attention and willingly reciprocates without even any cupboard love involved.
The only fly in the ointment is that I am kinda sensitive to its saliva on parts of my skin so there is no way I could ask to adopt it from its current owners who are only keeping it for their daughter.
Mondays Suck
Sorry to hear your friends are dead. I've lost my four-legged friends and it's tough. I assume that after a while, you'll find new friends. They'll never replace the old friends, but then we don't expect that. Instead, they will find a new place in your heart.

Well said

Pets
It's sad when you lose a pet, I'm not a cat person although like any other animal where I live they seem to be attracted to me, even the damned Canadian geese.
Pets give us a lot, unconditional love, and companionship top the list and ask very little in return.
I have two dogs Badger who is springer/collie cross and Georgia a husky/collie cross, both very energetic and loving. Badger just runs around the field while Georgia plays with her favourite toy a rugby ball. It doesn't matter to them what the weather is like ( even a gale force wind won't keep them).
Pets seem to know when your sad and will give you comfort without expecting anything in return.
I'm not really a people person and have very very few friends. Strange when you consider I'm manager of a caravan and camping site.
Get yourself another pet maybe an older animal from a pet rescue center, you can't replace the ones you lost , we all know that but better than being lonely.
We plan to get one or two cats but...
We will talk with the vet and do some research as Simon's cancer is usually triggered by a virus.
It can linger for some time/months?
Don't want to bring in new cats and infect them.
I hope Sniffany's vaccinations worked and she is untouched by this.

Well my two seem to be fine. My kitten KittKat is doing well and driving me nuts.
However when my cat Kittie was stolen from my backyard I was devastated so I do understand your pain.

Thanks again for your kind words
This Saturday I am taking Sniffanie in for FeLV and FIV tests.
I hope she is not infected.
This is her maybe 9 months ago. She has gained a pound or two since then and is quite active. Cross your fingers for her.

It Hurts So Bad
We've had many over the last 45 years: everyone different. They cannot be replaced; however, we just make a little more room in our hearts for the next ones.

Many hugs my friend
If you get a chance to search the web, look for "You have chosen tears" by some author whose name I forget. I would post it here but don't want to get Erin in trouble with any infringement
Be well
I forget where the website is but Crossing the Rainbow Bridge...
Is the phrase used to commemorate pets who have gone.
My sister posted Rusty there in early Feb and I assume Simon now.

So sorry to hear of your lose John.....
Unfortunately this is a pain I'm well familiar with, my sunshine at age nine went hunting in my back woods the day before hurricane sandy hit and was never seen again, I was devastated! Loving Hugs Talia
They give us so much
They give us so much with their love and affection. Then when we have to do the right thing by them when this time comes, it hurts us even more, but you know you did what had to be done. They are no longer in pain, and we remember the joy they gave us.
