So okay there's a new chapter up here, I am however still having log in issues here on BC and can't upload new stuff to Maddybell.com either.

I've tried everything people have suggested without success so it looks like its end of the line for me posting stuff for free - i'll give it till the end of the month but after that I'm not wasting any more of my precious time on this planet trying to fix stuff. Doesn't mean I stop writing but the couple of hours I spend doing site updates will be better spent doing other things.

Hi Maddy

You mentioned earlier that you use FTP to upload. If so, which FTP client do you use? Similarly, which browser do you use to access BC and do you have similar issues elsewhere? If you have cleared the cache then you might need to dig a little deeper, has a proxy been setup even if you wouldn't normally need one? If you use FTP through a browser then the proxy would interfere there as well as for browsing. One other suggestion is to clear the cookie(s) that BC places on your system.

Ran out of options for FTP

We've tried all kinds of things to resolve the ftp problem, login credentials that work fine for me don't work for Maddy, we even went as far as using the command line ftp program for troubleshooting purposes and still had the same issues.

You can't choose your relatives but you can choose your family.

Password Corruption

how about typing the password somewhere you can see it, and copy and paste it in the password field. If that works then somehow your password is getting getting corrupt as you type it.

Might be a sticky shift key or caps lock key is accidentally getting hit.

Malware?

Piper's picture

It could also be any matter of malware doing it on purpose to capture your password.

I agree with Piper, except it

I agree with Piper, except it doesn't even have to be deliberate. Several of the mal/adware programs insert themselves as proxy servers, and they corrupt network traffic without even trying.

adwcleaner and combofix might help.

the issues

are only here at BC and when using ftp for my site - quite specific and clearly telling me something!

Why use FTP for BC?

I didn't know that anyone could use FTP here.

Why not just submit stories using "Add a story" like I do?

Penny

It's not FTP for BC

Maddy uses FTP for her own website, her problem with BC is with logging in.

That really SUCKS...

Having enjoyed reading much of your writing for a few years, I'd hate to have to do without...

I'm assuming you've tried a second computer (to insure it's not something restricted to yours)... Perhaps, one of your friends will "post for you" until they can figure out why you can't... (I'd hate to do without my fix, you know... Totally selfish suggestion...)

Best wishes on a quick and successful resolution.

P.S. Loved the latest episode posted here.

logging in and possible malware

Hi Mads,

I don't know about ftp but the best anti-malware program I've ever found (and used now for eight years) is Emsisoft.

It is designed for use in the Windows environment so if you're using the Unix derived operating systems or Apple's OS then I don't know what to suggest.

If you use windows then the best part of Emsisoft is the first 30 days.... they're free for someone to evaluate the anti-malware and it is completely unrestricted during that period. One note: you will need to allow it access to the internet during first use so it can update (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) during install. Great anti-malware program which usually beats out McAfee, Avast, Symantec, Microsoft, AVG, and the other usual suspects.

FileZilla

I use this almost every day in my work to connect to sites all over the world.

I've been using Filezilla for years and its that which isn't playing ball!

I've had filezilla quit

I've had filezilla quit working for a site. I ended up just purging out all of the filezilla settings (I'll get instructions for you) and starting clean.

some configuration went weird - like it was trying ssl when it's straight ftp.

blocked port

Daniela Wolfe's picture

Have you tried FTPing into any other sites? It could be that the ftp port is blocked on your computer.

You can check this by doing the following these steps:
http://kb.siteground.com/ftp_port_21/

You should also use the same steps to check and see if step 22 is blocked. SFTP (Secure ftp) uses 22 so either port blocked could cause problems. People often refer to SFTP as FTP so you could be using either and might i add if you're not using SFTP I highly suggest you do since as the name might suggest it's more secure.

Have delightfully devious day,

I think it was already

I think it was already mentioned that it was ftp to -only- this one site.

Possibility

I get the impression from a few comments that you're using a library computer or internet cafe. If I'm wrong, please ignore the rest of this.

The update problem could be because your site vendor is blocking updates from the IP address block because of someone else using that facility. If that's the case, having someone else do the updates might be the only solution.

An absolutely wild guess for the problems logging in here: have you changed the password? A lot of sites give you a single use password when you go through the "I forgot my password" mechanism. If that's the case, and you don't change the password as soon as you log in, the next time you try to log in you'll get the invalid password message.

Goodbye! ;-(

I am so sorry to hear you will no longer be posting Gaby stories.
I have enjoyed them for many years. It's been quite and adventure watching Andrew slowly but ever so surely transition to Gaby.
Worse, you are now into a wonderful new novel. Gaby is really becoming herself, and discovering that boys aren't yuckie, but rather nice. I will be ever so sorry to miss the ending of this chapter in Gaby's life.
So, Gaby Bond will go the same way as did Sara Carerra, and so many others I had followed.
However, I understand your frustration and accept it. Obviously, the internet has conspired to drive Gaby into obscurity.
Goodbye, Maddy. I will miss you.

Re: update

Hi,

There are several ways that can cause problems, like login or ftp problems.
To help you professional, I need to know some basic information.

For example:
What is your operating system? (Windows / Unix / Mac OS)
Have you a Desktop Computer or a Notebook?
How you get connected to the Internet? (Modem / Router)

As a big Gaby Fan I like to help you to solve the problems, but it seems BC has no private message function.
Please keep on writing new Gaby stories.
