the time- where did it all go.

Today should be a happy day, but it's not. Not really. It is my birthday and I turned 4 - oh no today. So it is time to put away the pretty little dresses and the rumba pants, time to put the petticoats in storage, and time to say good bye to the party dresses, the footed pajamas, and the one piece swimsuits with the little tutus. I will have to say good bye to my old friends Barbie, Ken, and Skipper. The Barbie corvette is up on blocks and the pink power wheels jeep is being sold on craigslist.

But there are things to look forward to.

I can get a nice pair of reading glasses; seeing clearly is fun. I can sign up for AARP. Boyscouts can help me cross the street. Good times ahead.

Your just a kid

Come March, I break into real senior citizen territory. I'll be eligible maximum Social Security benefits. 70, seems like a something magic should happen, but I expect to work two more years and put those generous (?) benefits into some kind of interest bearing account and then retire. It seems like yesterday I kissed my wife (as my wife) for the first time, but come August, of the year I retire, we'll be celebrating our fiftieth anniversary. That same year, in June, my oldest grandchild will graduate High School. Her mother, my youngest, is already 40.

So Katie, you can see why I think you're just a kid. Trust me, there's life after 40, so hang in, and remember, in twenty years, and you turn 60, that 60 is the new forty, so you can feel middle aged all over again.

Not everything that gets older gets worse. Think like a fine wine it only gets better when it ages. Age is mind over matter, IF you don't mind then it does not matter.

I remember being forty-something. I think I remember... now what was it I remember? Ah yes, I remember being bothered by how old I was. Eventually one forgets to do that, and birthdays can be fun again.
