Jenna inspired me to come up with this thread. I'm curious to get a feel for what consoles people have here. You don't have to list them all, just the one's you may think are noteworthy/current and one's you feel might be unappreciated.
Right now I have most of the "next gen" as well as all the current gen. It took a while for me to wade into the waters of the Wii, eventually getting a Red one. I imported a Japanese one before but something my buyer did screwed it up so I can't hook component up to it or go online, defeating the point of me having it.
The oddball console I have is a Jaguar. I can't believe how much they're going for now. I will keep it though because there are games I like on it like..."Trevor McFur In the Crescent Galaxy" and "Kasumi Ninja". Yes "Kasumi Ninja" is goofy but I enjoy the gameplay and some of the fatalities. I've been meaning to try "Raiden" and "Flashback" on it out of curiosity.
Additionally I have......dun, dun, dun!!! A PC-FX. I would snuggle the thing if I could. It's a console that looks like a PC tower with a CD-ROM on top. If you've never heard of it, it was Japanese only and a sequel to the PC Engine. This was known as the Turbographx in the U.S. One of the big games for it is "Team Innocent" which was a game like RE before it came out. Another was Der Langrisser, a fairly popular strategy RPG in Japan at the time. The pack-in was "Battle Heat", a completely animated fighter like Dragon's Lair. Last there is Zenki FX which is a side-scrolling 2D fighter that is sadly extremely expensive ($250 at last check). It's claim to fame is the smooth animation scenes in portraits that ran at times in the game. It is also one of the few fighters for it I believe.
The unappreciated one out there I could say the DC but that ground has been tread. The console I'm going to say is....the Amiga CD32!!!!! I don't have one yet but I want it desperately. While the Xbox was big on FPS's, usually on PC as well or even port, the CD32 was this way but with having Adventure games in spades. Strangely enough it made it's way to Canada but never released in the U.S.
For some reason I never can understand the U.S. never gets an exclusive console that may launch nowhere else. Maybe it's because we're such a big market no one wants to waste money test marketing here essentially.
Anyway, list, list!!!!
p.s. More than an honorable mention goes to Assembler!!! ;-)
p.p.s. Anyone who's thought of getting a Laseractive should get one now, it looks like they're selling fairly cheap.

Console me
We used to have a Sylvania console with the big light around the screen. I wanted to play "Winky Dink and Me" on it but mom said the crayons were too hard to clean off.
When I get a bit depressed, I like to eat macaroons but I never buy them anymore so I just appreciate the oatmeal and raisin cookies I have instead.

This is why I like PC.
This is why I prefer games, a lot of older PC games. Though, not all. Will play no news PC computers. And there is a lot more leeway on new PC games. The requires are no insanely high. And I don't have to buy a new PC every year to keep up.
Consoles.
I keep all the ones I have; those that still work anyway.I can't really afford the next gens. Best I have is a release day ps3, most esoteric one I have is a panasonic 3do... it has some amazing games for it, like "killing time", "way of the warrior", and "Po'd". crazy stuff, but if you're a kid....
I also have the same atari 2600 I had as a wee one. It still works, controllers and all.

3do games
I think the best Road Rash by far was on the 3do. Gex had some funny moments, including the boss who's weapon was farting. I also loved little known battle sport.

I currently have an XBOX 360
I currently have an XBOX 360 and a decent gaming PC. The 360 costs us a fortune because we Rent.To.Own at a weekly rate but were down to where the cost of paying it off is almost the same as buying it new with the same features and accessories.
Before the big cleanout I had a working Xbox (original) and a Gamecube plus a decent stack of games.
We briefly had a Wii but sold it because we didnt have room really to play it. plus it was the newer generation that didnt work with the gamecube like controllers.
I hate to ask...

Because quite honestly, coming up with $200 cash that isn't destined to pay a bill, is really hard. We have a bad habbit of spending anything we try and "save" so it's easier for us to remember to pay a bill, than save $ each month to purchase it outright. Oh and because of various reasons, other credit options aren't available to us.

Pong. Somewhere I think I still have a hardwired Pong game by Radio Shack. Connects to the TV and had two "controllers". It had "Pong" and some target shooting game. I did buy a couple of games for my C-64 but never played them. I played a mean game of "Pong", though! ;-)

All of these I had AT THE SAME TIME, several of them multiple consoles, plus a whole slew of esoteric controllers, like three separate models of the QuickShot joystick for the NES. We used to collect them from yard sales and thrift stores, and for a while I actually made a little cash at school cleaning up.fixing 2600s and selling them to classmates. Sadly, when I burnt myself out at college money was needed, and I sold them all. This was at a time when the game market wasn't exactly as, umm, rabid as it is now (2006), and my only feasible option was to take them to Game Exchange, where everything they would buy netted me less than 2k, including the several hundred games I had. It was rather pathetic.
Since then, I've owned quite a few consoles again, including the Xbox 360, the Wii, and the second model DS. Currently, though, the only consoles I own are the PSP, 3DS, and 3 4-switch 2600s, two wood grain and one Vader-model I'm modding for composite video out, and a Colecovision Flashback I got for Christmas. My parents still own a vintage NES I've made extensive refurbs to as well as one of our old N64s my dad likes to play Mario Kart on.
If I could get my hands on any retro console I wanted, I would probably pick an AV modded Turbo Duo. Over the last year I've watched a LOT of Turbografx-16 and Turbo CD gameplay online, and it just looks like an absolutely amazing console to own and play. Sadly, it's also incredibly prohibitively expensive to collect for, so the likelihood of me getting one lies somewhere between "when I win the lottery" and "when hell freezes over," because I've got better things to spend 500 dollars on than a console that may or may not be in perfect working order when I get it, especially when the games are regularly in the hundreds as well.
The prices of retro games and consoles have gotten ridiculous in the last few years.

Man I loved the American
Man I loved the American Saturn controller. That dimply d-pad was a godsend for my thumb.
I agree, Melanie. I own these consoles to play them, not to use as a showpiece. It's sad I won't be able to likely afford the digitized Zelda on the Philips CD-i. I want it very badly, though D2 M2 is at the top of that list. RIP Kenji Eno.
My Saturn controller had... issues.
About half the buttons only worked half the time, making some of the games I had for it -- like MechWarrior 2 -- nigh impossible to play. 'Twas sad, truly. I always wanted one of the analog monstrosities for Nights: Into Dreams. Precursor to the Dreamcast controller? Yes please!
Pricing issues is one of the reasons I love the modern digital market. I would love to see a day when every retro console game ever was made LEGALLY available through digital release, with a solid six-button controller to play them all on (what do you think, Saturn-style or TurboGrafx-16 style six-button? If you say Retron 5, we're not friends any more.)

But A) I'd never be able to pick it up OR pay you back, and B) until I have my life in order, I have more important things to put the money toward anyway :)
The LaserActive is cheap for a REASON, my friend. Which controller unit does the one you're looking at come with, the NEC one or the SEGA one? From what I've seen, the SEGA one seems to have a moderately better library.

From what everyone tells me the Laseractive use to almost run what it originally sold for on auction sites.
It's weird as Laseractive is the only console I can think of from the past that has gone DOWN in price. The cheap auctions don't include the modules...that being said I believe the Laseractive itself already supported some games by itself.
I think the Sega one is bigger Rasufelle. I know a friend who desperately wants "Time Gal" considering it's the best visually between all 3 versions: Sega CD, Saturn and Laseractive. I wish someone would burn an ISO of it and offer it online to people. You can consider it some violation that they don't own it but the game is prohibitively expensive from what my friend tells me(runs over $1K on eBay and other sites).
Frankly for those games I can't believe they don't have the cels or some film negative(at least I hope it was shot on film). If the latter is the case they could convert it to BR and offer it. It's like "Dragon's Lair" and so were many other Laseractive games.
For the PC Engine it's only $20-30 in Japan last I checked when I was there. There were bunches of them in some of the used game shops I visited. It's also quite small and would probably cost $5 or a little more to ship. Look at the pics online of it and you'll see the American model was artificially big.
Considering I'll be lucky if I can afford groceries soon...

If you're THAT desperate for Time Gal, I believe the arcade version runs in M.A.M.E.

Wait, is the arcade version on Laserdisc? I didn't even think it released in arcades.

I can't remember exactly if the US version is simply "rare" or "completely nonexistent," but the game came out in the mid-80's for arcades, designed as a direct competitor with the likes of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, but with more fanservice. I THINK there's also a Japanese DVD release, meant to be played on your DVD player ala the old DVD releases of Don Bluth's games, but don't quote me on that.

I have a pair of PS2s (my wife and I both had one before we married) and a PS3. I used to have a Playstation as well, but I gave that one to a friend last year when his died. I also have the gaming PC I built in Oct. '09, which can still play current games if I dial back the graphics a bit. Nothing's really pulling me towards buying a next-gen console at the moment--our PS3 mostly sees use for NetFlix and Dragon Age: Inquisition these days, and I would have purchased DA:I for the PC if I had known a) that there wasn't a way to import DA:O or DA2 saves directly anyway, and b) how buggy it was going to be on PS3. On the other hand, I'm planning on building a new PC in the next few months as a birthday present to myself, so that will be fun.
Growing up, my family had the various Nintendo consoles from the NES (including Power Pad, Zapper, and Power Glove) through the Wii. I think several of them are still at my parents' house in more-or-less working order, but I'm pretty sure my brothers have claimed the Game Cube and Wii (and possibly the NES) at this point. I might grab the N64 myself the next time I'm home--my wife needs to be introduced to Ocarina of Time. We also had a Game Gear, Sega's answer to the Game Boy, which had a color screen, but basically no battery life unless you toted along a giant extra battery pack.

I forgot. I also have a PS1, and two _heavy_ duty DDR Pads (homemade). Need to find a home, or throw away, the pads. Have only used them for one convention.
Never got out the PS1, because it turns out that it's next to impossible to find the games. Everyone with a PS2 refused to get rid of the games for the PS/PS1. So, I have DDR, and one other game, and that's it.

If I had a way to claim 'em, I'd take the pads.
I used to have DDR on my PS2, and one of the cheap-o folding pads, and I absolutely ADORED it. Heck, if you decide to upgrade consoles, all the DDR games (and knockoffs) on the PS2 that use the pads work fine with PS1 pad models, since the controls don't change one iota from one to the next. Or, you could always upgrade the pads to USB and sell 'em to SOMEone.

You misunderstand. These are
You misunderstand. These are NOT your standard pads. They're homemade, but the only difference between these and what's on the big machines in arcades is lights. I built them (well, I did the wiring, my father did the framing) by wiring them to some controllers (the controllers are still there too). They can take someone 300 lbs in combat boots (tested!) jumping up and down on the sensors. They should still work - they haven't gotten wet in the garage. just humid.

p.s. I'm glad you didn't do the Cobalt Flux things. I've been on one of those and I really don't like them..they're high impact considering the base itself is composite wood. Ugh
