I was somewhat surprised that the Daily Wail has a straight take on this story, Here is the link:

I remember reading about her invite to the wedding. The article highlights the fact she has such a loving family.

Straight take

I rather suspect it is due to the fact that William supports her.

Also aside from institutional and royal support

I hate to bring up the old rag of being passable. After all her surgeries (who knows if she had FFS or not) she certainly looks and sounds the part, I certainly can not read her, that 's for sure. She's more feminine than her partner actually.

I had no advantages of surgery when I transitioned as it was back in the comparative dark ages (and could not afford it even there were any such thing, frankly.) BUT I was passable already so even when I had to out myself I was treated fairly.

Yep....

Whatever advantages she may have, thank God her place in time is a benefit to those of us who may follow? (That's her on the left.)

seem to have fewer problems with transgender personnel that many in civvy street, which shows how far they've come in recent years. They have strict protocols for dealing with it. So well done them.

I hope she and her wife will be happy.

UK officialdom

I have written about this, but also experienced it first hand with my own transition (and continue to experience it). The protocols are clear and the process is well-covered by regulations and sanctions. I have also felt the benefit of team-working culture. When it is bad, it is the canteen culture of police corruption horror stories, but when it is good it is truly wonderful. I get nothing but support from my team mates, and this young pilot will feel and receive exactly the same. I stole the words from a colleague that I used in one story: you are still you, just better explained.

The general public, though, are a different matter.

I remember ...

... one of the first transgender stories I read was about a former RAF fighter pilot who became Roberta Cowell. It was a long time ago and around the time of Christine Jorgenson but before April Ashley. However, she had left the airforce before transition.

The most surprising thing about this story is the Mail's treatment. I suppose it's too much to hope that it's a sign of the rag's rising from its usual small minded attitudes to most things. My grandmother always called it the Daily Liar and she died in 1968 so it's a long term habit.

I think I addressed the subject quite well in Soaring With Eagles the eighth and penultimate novel in the California Saga series.
