Trying to find a Story to re-read

Hi

I am looking for a Story, Starts in London and Cambridge, ends up in Greece. It deals with the story of Hermaphroditus and Salmacis's Fountain.

The main Character was a photographer and was over 10 chapters long with some Illustrations, including maps etc.
