From the tastefully named Amy's Winehouse in Sunderland city centre comes this marketing gem.
I took the proprietor to task. I explained that 'bog roll' was actually two words.
Elitist scum that I am.

Elitist concerning Sunderland Nicki?
Somehow I never imagined you to be a Geordie…

A Geordie? I'll Meet You At Dawn!
Wrong river. Geordies are Tynesiders. Sunderland is on the Wear. Anyway, I'm not a native.
Are you sure Nicki?
The Georgie's built all those bridges over the Tyne so that could get down to Sunderland on the Wear for a fight.
Peace now Nicki, we are all mongrels under the gloss

No Truer Word Was Ever Said
Just for the record, my grandparents were from Cliburn in Westmorland, Hartlepool headland, Stockton on Tees and Portsmouth.
Geordies and Mackems
Geordies are from Newcastle; Mackems are from Sunderland. Confuse them at your peril. :)

bog roll
what is it?
Toilet Tissue
The polite term is 'toilet tissue'
For the benefit of the colonials... :)

Now, to confuse matters more....
What about the 'Long Drop'?
Isn't taking the proprietor to task ..
... rather like explaining to a greengrocer that 'apples' doesn't need an apostrophe? :) In any case 50p for 4 seems to be quite cheap unless it's the stuff that sandpapers yer arse when you use it :) I'm one of the few people I know who actually had a week's holiday in Sunderland and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also did some milk round interviews there for work and the city was sadly very much not busy.
I wasn't a fan but that shop name is a bit sick as you imply. I assume it's a recent photo post her tragic death.

Never mind the bog roll
Amy's has the apostrophe correctly placed. A miracle itself in many parts of England!
