Yep, I'm going to go on a rant. I read where people join this site and are afraid someone will out them for actualy reading TG stories. OMG, you've got to be kidding. It's like every one you know goes right to Bigcloset and looks to see if someone they know is on the site, give me a break. In the first place, who gives a crap what you read and secondly this site is so way beyond being noticed that your friends could care less what you read. I know I'm being a jerk, but if I cared about what others thought I wouldn't be here in the first place. Yes, when I first started writing my novels and stories I was worried someone would see what I had written, hence my Author name, Arecee. I realized no one could care less that my name was my initials, RC. It's not like people flock to read my stories, even my wife doesn'
t and won't read them.
Case in point, I met a woman at a Christmas party who said she wanted to talk to me about TG issues and you know what, she never called. I know people don't care anymore about your interests and in my case are more interested that I write novels and not what they're about. What I do in my own time hasn't effected my business one bit, and never mind, I'm just rambling. The point is don't be afraid to become a member here and donate to the Hatbox, because no one gives a shit what you do on a site like this, but we do, because it's a place where you are safe, Arecee

Just one thing
I don't think the new people are worried about randomly being outed, I think they are more concerned about 'enemy action': the friend, acquaintence, or relative that is making a deliberate, dedicated effort to 'out' them in some form or fashion. It happens, we all know that. It really isn't paranoia if they are out to get you. Once a secret is out, it can't be a secret anymore.
I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.
Be careful of over generalization
I mean who knows who reads this stuff?
*Pope Francis is that you? :)*
Also for transfolks keeping stealth means control over the time of your own choosing of when you want to be 'out'. AFAIK you are not trans and that is cool and all but for those of us who are in stealth or not ready Google is NOT our best friend.
Agree with sentiments of donating to Big Closet
Erin and company is betting big with all the large capital expenditures and the service upgrade. It really behooves more people to decide if BC is of value to them and not just let other people shoulder the burden. It was clear from the prolonged outage that there are enough users of this site that there are lots of people who can donate who under donate or not at all. Considering that paid services cost 25 bucks or so a month I do not think what Erin is asking as a monthly goal is unreasonable. Do you, the reader, really want to wait for another outage?
Finally for those who are paranoid, BC at least will take non-electronic payments. You can't do that with sites like tgstories.com which promise 'discrete' billing name I doubt it takes much digging who owns that billing name.
Sorry, my mistake
I was in one of those moods, but I haven't run into anyone as distructive as ones you apparently have, except for the IRS. Not letting people know was why I named myself Arecee, but now when someone asks what I write, I tell them to Google Arecee, author. Maybe I'm too out of touch some times to realize people can make it their lifes career to ruin someone elses life, Arecee
The BC Community
Is IMHO a hellofa lot more friendly than some other TG forums. There isn't the endless stream of forced fem and a teenage become a good looking girl overnight stories.
I tell people who don't know the real me that I'm writing Mills & Boon style 'boddice ripper' stories when I get asked about my writing. Nine times out of Ten, they give a shake of their head and change the subject.
I'm also paranoid about my 'presence' on the internet. You never know who's listening in (Hi NSA/GCHQ/FIS etc). If you google/bling for my real name you won't find me and I want to keep it that way hence my use of an alias here. Actually, if I ever did transition then my alias would be my real name.
There are all types of TG people here and generally the level of conversation.discussion is very adult and well reasoned. Long may it keep that way.
As soon as I get back from my current business trip to South Asia I'll be answering Erin's call for funds.
